Remove a half demolished bridge from Google maps

It’s been an infuriating journey each time I try to use Google maps to go from my home to the rest of the city.

The govt is creating a huge new bridge over here

In order to make sure that people don’t use an old shabby bridge near it, the contactors broke the entry and exit points of this nearby bridge which is in a shabby state.

The problem, we being we, motorcyclists and 4 wheel cars are going over the pile and still using the hazardous bridge. I have tried marking the bridge as it does not exist (it will be demolished, or will break if people don’t stop using it)… But because bikes and 4 wheel jeeps are still using it, it never gets removed, and is recommended to me as the best way to take when I am going somewhere.

What this means is that I have to take longer routes when going out, or when coming back I had been stuck on a road that is closed (I am new here, so the road, specially on the way back is a mess because of construction).

How can I remove this bridge from Google maps?

Hi @WaqasT

It sounds like a serious problem. The best would probably be if the physical access to the old bridge was made impossible, then I would know what you need to do to get it removed from Google Maps. If only bikes and pedestrians could use the bridge, then this could also be reflected in Google Maps. Sometimes fixing issues on Google Maps comes secondary to fixing them in real life.

But given the bridge should be removed from Google Maps you have a few options.

You can provide feedback in the app.

You can try Edit the map and close/remove the road.

You can report it as temporarily closed.

But I would recommend that you try the Maps support forum.

Hit the Community tap at the top and make a post.

You need to attach or link some convincing documentation supporting the closure. Google will not just take your word for it. Photos might also be helpful but some official document is often needed. Imagine if anyone could close a bridge.

Best of luck

Or you can report that route as wrong direction, @WaqasT . So Google won’t suggest its users to use that route.

Here’s how: Report wrong directions
