Reflection on #connectlive2019

Thinking about the connect live 2019 after a week and the whole event is passing like a time lapse in my mind. Truly an event of international level, having people flown from multiple countries (64 exactly, some of the guys traveled more than 10k miles and took as many as 7 modes of transportation).

Kudos goes to the team of Googler’s who were working round the clock to make this a memorable 3 days for all of the LG’s . Team was working with so much precision and they really lived up to the mantra of “Work hard and party Harder”.

They even remember to put hand written notes of “birthday wishes” in to attendees goodies bag who were either celebrating or had their birthday’s near to event. I got one in mine. Thanks to @brittym and @TraciC for that. And thanks again for making this event a great time for all of us. I got to meet @DeniGu and other googler’s and it was just fun. Gratitude for the whole team.

The whole event was a bonanza of learning’s as pointed below:

  • Either you are in connect live 2019 or not , all the Local guides are equal and you are among equals no matters what your level is. I met people who are at level 10 and as well as level 5. All of them treat like day one of being local guide.
  • Everyone contributes in different ways. Some put photos, some like to put detailed reviews, some like to edit and some do all the things. So you need to find your own way of contributing and do the way you love.
  • There are two amazing podcasts (GoLoco By @AdrianLunsong and #letsguidepodcast by @JanVanHaver )which covers a lot about local guide program and general tips for what all you can do on maps and how you can make quality contributions on map.
  • Google does consider LG’s feedback and put them in actions. Many of the features reflect those feedback’s in actions. So never hesitate to give one. Respect the guidelines on this.
  • The focus on localization on maps is next big thing and story of bringing local transportation (Danfo) in Lagos, Nigeria was one such example. And Local guides do play a crucial role in this to achieve.
  • Every hour in the event you meet different people and learn about cultures and countries and view points

I am taking back so much from this event i don’t even have words to put in here. Friends, connections, love, joy, emotions and on top of all the positive energy to do more, contribute more, think actively and make a difference. Its a bag full of learning. The recognition we got from the event is an example of highest level of returns any community can have. So we should to keep that intact and keep doing what we do best #letsguide.

Cheers

Wonderful to finally meet you after spending all these months virtually and to get a chance to chat, drink coffee, walk, clean, eat, drink, dance, drink more coffee, and take a few selfies in between together all in a magical 90+ hours.

You will be applying again for the next time, right??? = )

It was great meeting you @GaganMishra and glad that you had an amazing time at Connect Live! Such amazing memories will stay with us and as corny as it sounds, events like Connect Live (obviously since it’s been organised so amazingly well by the Local Guides team), serves to remind us all that despite geographical, cultural and even language barriers, when you put us all together in a room, we get on well with each other and with the right mindset we can achieve amazing things! Never forget that experience and let’s all work together to bridge the gaps. We are always stronger together!

@GaganMishra I was one of the lucky ones to receive a handwritten birthday card. That was worth more than the precious Pixel 3 they gave us. Getting to know people as wonderful and interesting as you was the best part of this trip. I sincerely hope to see you again soon, and I wish you all the happiness in the world, because you deserve it.

What you have wrote is simple to understand but difficult to implement, and that where the community needs to go. Having people like you moderating this platform, i must say the things are going in right direction. It was great meeting you @AdrianLunsong . I got to see that brain of your in work while we were in the same session on first day. Keep rocking. Cheers.
