I don’t know if anyone else has seen this but I have seen a reduction in the view count for individual photos, videos and 360 spheres, Of course it is difficult to be precise if you don’t keep a record. But there are a number of images that I know had reached particular milestones so this is not just affecting one or two images
I don’t record my numbers but keep a general eye on things like the number of photos that have a million or over two million views. When I last checked I had 23 images that were more than 1 million and 4 of those were over 2 million.
Today only three of my photos are over 2 million. The top one has increased slightly, but the second has definitely decreased. by about 150,000.
I have not kept detailed check on my views, but I surely noticed a drop off in the number of views per week. That is the number in the green little box top right hand corner of our photo views graph. I think the reduction happened 1-2 months ago.
We can use the the site lgstats.xyz to pull some time series data to improve our documentation.
@InaS would you care to also escalate this. If the team would like more evidence if the issue kindly let us know. What kind of further documentation would be helpful.
My overall numbers went up this morning, but my individual numbers are off randomly. Not enough roads added to equal my increase in points. My 5 years old star dropped below 3 million. My star video, which has been so close to to 1 million is way down. Others in my top 10 seem unaffected.
Thank you for tagging me in this thread. I have reviewed the post and have sent over to the team all the accounts that shared in the post about the reduction in view count for individual images.
I think the issue described by @Rednewt74 is probably connected and a very recent issue i.e. last 24 hours. I can’t say that the problem you identified with the overall count from 1-2 months ago isn’t connected, but I suspect it might be another probem.
I wonder whether we will see an uptick in the number of issues with the large number of Google staff losing their jobs.
I’ve been tracking 30ish photos daily for the last couple of weeks. The majority of them went up by 1 from yesterday. The next group is +1 from the counts I logged on 2/4. And just a couple are down below the counts from 1/20.
As a local guide for years, I enjoy uploading photos of places I’ve visited and giving reviews. As of yesterday, after I uploaded several photos, I noticed there is no longer a view count on newly uploaded photos. I thought it might be a glitch on my phone, so I restarted my phone. Then I tried to delete the photos I had just uploaded to start fresh. Low and behold, the delete option is gone. I think I can speak for many. The view count is a great motivator to continue to upload more photos.
I have noticed a significant drop in my most popular photos as well. One almost reached 4 million now it’s down to 3,600,000. I also noticed that my newer photographs do not have a view count at all and the photos cannot be deleted.
Thank you. I apologize. I am new to this forum. I didn’t know it existed until today, when I did a search to see why the view numbers weren’t being posted and our view numbers dropped significantly.
I briefly checked this morning @nigelfreeney and @MortenCopenhagen and things looked ok. Its 4.00PM. EST here now, I’m back home and my totals are off;
No views for photos and videos posted yesterday and my top 25 have been reduced, many by a few hundred thousand. SIGH
It was great to hear your voice on the latest episode of Jan’s podcast.
With this many symptoms I think we are looking at a systematic error related to the photo servers and the routines used to calculate our photo views totals and the individual photos’ views.
I would expect to hear back soon or see things normalize completely.
Hi all. I just noticed this last night, then this morning. I uploaded two photos to two different stores, the last being Chick-fil-A, Chino Hills, ca on grand Ave if you want to check it out. For the first few hours the total views displayed, and one photo had over 120 views in like 5 hours. Now when I look there is no view number at all. The photos are there and even show up on incognito mode. Never seen this before. Figured I would ask. Thanks
