Reconstruction of Kumamoto Castle/

Shimabara, a town where delicious water is found/

I left a message about Kumamoto Castle for @TravellerG on this topic before.

Kumamoto was severely damaged by an earthquake in 2016.
Kumamoto Castle, the symbol of Kumamoto, was also severely damaged.

Kumamoto Castle was built in 1607 and is said to be one of the most impregnable castles in Japan.
In 1877, Japan’s last civil war, the Seinan Rebellion, it was able to withstand even when the outnumbered government army barricaded itself in the area.

Reproduction in vr when it was made

One of the symbols of Kumamoto Castle is the stone wall, designed in such a way that people cannot climb it.

It is also designed in such a way that ninjas cannot sneak in through the attic, and bows and guns can be shot from various windows to repel intruders.
For more information, please visit the Kumamoto Castle website.

I had the opportunity and was able to enter the vicinity of Kumamoto Castle three months after the 2016 earthquake.
In the aftermath of the major collapse, preparations for reconstruction had begun little by little.

We were also able to see the process of reassembling the collapsed stone walls by assigning a number to each one.

Eight years later, I decided to go there after a long absence.
Eight years have passed, but the restoration is still in progress.
Some areas are still off-limits and some stone walls are still crumbling.

Even so, there were many tourists and many foreigners who were interested in Japanese castles.
It will be difficult to fully restore the castle, but I am sure that someday the off-limits sections will disappear.
We would like to keep a patient eye on the situation.

Hello my dear friend, @yamamo_cchi,
Shocking information!
We are not used to such incidents and your video is chilling my bones! Feeling very sad to look at the photos too.
Thanks for tagging me - otherwise I would have missed your beautiful post.
Most sincerely

Thanks for the comment.
I live in Fukuoka, which is 110 km away from Kumamoto.
Still, there was a big earthquake, so it must be unimaginable there.
It must have been a very strong earthquake, considering the fact that the damage was minimal even in the midst of a war with artillery shells flying around nearly 150 years ago.

Thanks for the comment.
It is said that it will take 20 years to fully restore Kumamoto Castle.
At the time of my visit this year, it will have not yet reached the halfway point.
If I have a chance, I would like to post the restoration status again.

Thanks for the comment.
When I visited 8 years ago, I was full of sadness as well as fear.
Now it is vibrant with many people visiting.
I sincerely hope that the restoration can be done as soon as possible and that the work can be done safely.
