Imagine. You’ve worked hours on end for 6 weeks, sometimes until 1am to pull an important project together for your boss…or maybe a neighbor. They insist that you accept some sort of thanks because they simply would have “gone mad” if they were in it alone. They don’t have much to offer, but hey, how about a trip to Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho where they own a cabin? Thanks but, uh…huh?! Where is that, anyway? Your first thought, even in reading this post, is probably to Google the place, ammiright?
When we want to learn about a new place, even a community nearby, we tend to resort to Google Reviews to see what’s up. We know to order the delectable chocolate ganache at an Italian bistro, or hear that the Pumpkin IPA at XYZ Brewery is just “meh”…Heck, even behind the scenes, local guides are correcting addresses, pins, websites, and more. So what happens if that community goes silent for a month? A YEAR? Sure, we love using this resource but we also have the responsibility to reciprocate, or else we might see the ruination of this tool we’ve taken for granted!
That is why I share on Google Maps. Who knows about my community more than I do? I love the place I call home, and I want those stopping in for a few hours or a weekend to have only the BEST experience possible. I’ll admit, I’m a bit defensive of my beloved Birmingham (you better play nice and drive even nicer when passing through), but I’m a Southerner after all, and I know a thing about hospitality.
I may not try new places often, but if you see my face next to a recommendation or warning, you know you can trust it! I say, let’s all contribute a little more to create a Google Maps experience that we all can maximally enjoy.
