Why have my points been reduced so massively, I can think of no real reason for this and I find it extremely disheartening that this should happen at all, as my efforts are made in good faith.
I feel that I no longer want to contribute if this is how I’m going to be treated!

Hi @EricDelamere sorry to hear you are losing points, to offer you some constructive feedback I had a look at your contributions and would recommend paying more attention to where you add the photos to. Many of yours are not added to the actual place but are perhaps added to other places you’ve visited or stayed.
For example https://goo.gl/maps/zmbNcBPTBWHKerPt9 is added to Big4 Dandenong but should be added to Puffing Billy - these places aren’t even in the same suburbs.
and this one of the Kurandra Railway https://goo.gl/maps/mj69B5dKCA8gT6Fv6 being contributed to Beach House Port Douglas.
and this Pelican by a lake https://goo.gl/maps/daDzJtyhyfcuWZXs6 contributed to a pedestrian mall in Adelaide called Rundle Mall.
I would suggest that perhaps Local Guides and business owners are reporting your images as not being of the place and they are being made private.

Did you delete Maps history through the settings? Or, have you chosen a setting to delete the history automatically after 3 or 18 months? Going by many similar discussions, I find that to be a prominent reason for the sudden loss of points.
Private reviews and photos continue to add up in points.
However, there is a risk.
If a user continues with a large amount of private content, the automated check may delete that and cause a reduction in points.
