I have been trying to add an English name to a hotel in Taiwan, but it has not changed and I have not even received the email saying the edit is being reviewed. Is there anything else I can do?

Google Team review your edits, so your changes might take some time to be updated on the map. Google may email you about the status of your edits and may forward you questions from other people who review your edits.
also note that You can only suggest an edit in some countries and regions.
