RECAP: WW HOSPITAL EDIT: AWKA CITY
Tick Tack, Tick Tack, Tick Tack, it was already 2:00pm and I was only the one present at Fides Communications for the meet up, so I began my journey to the Ceders Hospital which was my first point.
Whats new! I had Jerry Guma, a new local guides who frequents Awka and Enugu city but reside in Abuja city attending his first meet up. He is new to the programme and he joined me in some of the places we visited during the meet up. I visited hospitals and clinics around Nodu- Okpuno Axis while Jerry Guma joined me and we went through Unizik Tempsite Axis.
I started editing hospital along Nodu Axis. I visited Ceders hospital to see a doctor a week before the meetup and I used the opportunity to add it on the map but it refused to be added. When I visited the hospital, I got every details including phone number and opening/ closing hours. During the day of the meetup, because the hospital doesn’t open on Sundays, I filled in the same details again and it refused to send. I tried it like about three times thinking it was network but only to discover that I had 4G network on my phone. It was when I tried it the fifth time, it went through but wasn’t published.
When I left Ceders hospital, I went to Eldorado hotel which is about 1200 meters away from Ceders Hospital. Eldorado hospital opens every day. So when I went into the hospital, I explained to the attendant at the reception my purpose and told her that I am a local guides. She understood and gave me some information like the customer care line which corresponded with the one already on the map. I requested taking pictures of their lab to upload on google map which she granted me. When I was leaving, she then pleaded with me not to add the pictures of the lab on the map because she needed to get approval from the manger of the hospital. It actually sounded to me like medicine after death but I nodded and the left the hospital and didn’t add the lab pictures on the map again.
That’s the end of Nodu- Okpuno Axis of Hospital Editing….
When I finished at Nodu- Okpuno Axis, I met Jerry Guma at Central Bank Junction. He joined me and then we took a bus to Unizik Temp. Site Axis. At Temp Site Junction, we were in a dilemma to either choose the left hand side of the road or the right hand side of the road because the two sides are also flooded with hospitals, clinics and pharmaceutical store. So, we chose the right hand.
The first place we came across was Biocode Laboratory. It was closed and we tried adding it to the map but it refused to send after many trials
Another place we came across was YESA pharmaceutical stores and Embrix Laboratories. Embrix Laboratories do not work on Sundays by YESA Pharmaceutical works on Sunday. At YESA, We got every detail from the attendant (the customer care line and opening /closing hours). We tried adding it on the map but it refused to send even after so many trials
We went to Iykenson Hospital and Medical Laboratories. The hospital doesn’t operate on Sundays. When I tried adding it on the map, it refused to send but later it went through after many trials and then it was published too.
From Iykenson Hospital, we went to Healing Grace Hospital. Healing Grace Hospital is in the same estate with Iykenson Hospital. The attendant at the reception attended to us well and we asked her some questions and explained ourselves and told her about the local guides programme. After she gave us the necessary details (office number and working hours), we requested to take at least a picture of the reception which she accepted. I added it on the map and it was also published immediately. We showed her the mail that the hospital was now on the map and she was happy and bid us farewell.
It was already 4:30pm and we were tired because of the heavy scorching sun. So we went to Fresh Point Restaurant, which was a stone throw to take a bottle of drink and to relax our frayed nerves.

**Challenges: Some hospital and pharmaceutical stores refused to be added. I checked if it was network issue but I discovered it wasn’t because I was having full 4G network on my phone. It was really very embarrassing though but I kept trying and later about three places were added to the map and also published except oneAnd that’s how the meet up ended… click here to see more pictures on google drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/181u8X4VivsISYo0RCIlVw3MDVHazPqCU
