RECAP: World Environment Day: Virtual

What a great way to celebrate our dear environment.

Even though we are constraint by political boundaries and the current pandemic; we still go ahead to meet virtually from all corners of the globe with one objective. “to Celebrate our Environment and how best we can do to keep it clean and give chance to the biodiversity to flourish”.

As schedule we started the meet up with introduction and welcoming address by the host (me).

after that I present a small paper as contain below:

"Good day, fellows, ladies, and gentlemen.

Today Friday, 5 June 2020 is d “WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY” (WED).

This year’s Theme is “BIODIVERSITY”.

However, due to Covid-19 and all it’s associated syndromes, it’s not going to be celebrated as it use to be, that’s why the lectures in respect of this year’s WED Theme is brought to us online via available platforms.

The Theme will be discussed under the following subheads:

*Meaning of Environment,

*Purpose of WED,

*Meaning of BIODIVERSITY and

*The need to celebrate Biodiversity/Summary.

  • Environment refers to the surrounding in which man, animals and plants lives and operates. There’s close and intimate relationship between man and his environment.

  • Purpose of WED: It is celebrated on 5 June of every year World over. It is the UNITED NATIONS principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment. It was first held in 1974.

WED creates awareness of d environment and enhances political attention, action, and other specific environmental issues.

It focuses on ways to improve the earth’s environment and other environmental concerns ranging from pollution to global warming and sustainable food production, to protection of wildlife and conserving the forests.

  • BIODIVERSITY: Biological diversity or Biodiversity is the total variety and variability among living organisms and the ecological complexes in which they occur or inhabit. It encompasses viruses, bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms, as well as animals and plants in the World or in a habitat. Biodiversity boost the ecosystem productivity.

  • Need to celebrate Biodiversity/Summary: The foods we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe and the climate that makes our planet habitable all come from nature. Yet, these are exceptional times in which nature is sending us a message, that to care for ourselves we must care for nature. It is time to wake up, take notice and raise our voices. It is time to build back better for people and the planet. The WED is time for nature.

Finally, I will be rounded up by encouraging us to plant trees, take care of biological species around us and do all we can to nurture our environment because there is no planet B.

To all the Local Guides community, I wish us all a successful and sustainable BIODIVERSITY celebrations.

Thank you and remain blessed.

Sagir."

After this different participants contributed on how best we can to see that we have a better environment.

I may not be able to mention all but some few are:

@doc_dells : Share with us how some countries are doing to reduce plastic waste. Because plastic is one of the real treat to our environment.

@Globe_trotter_Ish : Also share with us her experience

@UchechukwuEnem write a beautiful poem for the earth which she explain what inspire her to write.

@Anil6969 As we celebrate Environment Day we also celebrate a legend of environment. It is Anil Singh’s Birthday 5th June.

We conclude the meeting by singing a Happy birthday song to him. it was awesome celebrating our own…

My takeaway from this event was; “let’s take care of the environment so that the day does not come when we go to fish and we catch bottles instead of fishes” @Sagir

Thanks to you @Sagir bhai, for such a nice meet-up.

We need to understand the fact that there is no other planet to live. This is our only beautiful planet which we need to maintain.

And also we need to share the awareness to whole world that the Earth needs healing and medication and only we can do it.
