Wheelchair accessibility meetup
The very first wheelchair-accessible meetup of Cameroon took place in Buea and it was quite an awesome experience. I got the opportunity to get 4 volunteers who had never contributed to Google maps prior to the event._
They were trained on how to use google maps to add new places, reviews, photos and videos on Google maps and I also explained why we were doing the one accessibility Campaign in Cameroon.
The training lasted for 45 minutes and after that, all five of us stepped out to start mapping wheelchair accessible places to google maps. We added new photos of the wheelchair ramps we saw to the already existing places on google maps and added the spots with wheelchair ramps which were not yet on Google maps.
We succeeded to find 11 places with wheelchair-accessible ramps and it was really exciting because we didn’t expect to find any at all. They were mostly banks._
While on the walk, we got to meet a lady who is disabled and had a talk with her, made her know what our campaign was all about and also created a List list of all the places we gathered and shared with her.
We look forward to having many more accessibility meetups when the lockdown is all over. Gladly this one was held before the short down got to Cameroon. The volunteers were excited to learn and are so willing to continue mapping.
Thanks a lot @Jesi @EmekaUlor @PennyChristie for the support!
