{Recap} WAW 2019 - Karachi Accessibility Walk

As a part of advocacy,

#OneAccessibility, and team member of the campaign, we always try to find out and add Accessibile to Google maps, and help thousands of people indirectly, who are searching for the place where they can access easily. Specially those people who use wheelchairs or the people who have different abilities.

Hello Local Guides,
World Wide Accessibility Walks 2019 is a biggest opportunity for anyone who wants to make difference and wants to creat Awareness for importance of Wheel Chairs Accessibility.

The WAW 2019 meet-ups are in commemoration of the annual International Day of Persons with Disability. This is a United Nations observance which is held 3rd December annually.
Local Guides all over the world are encouraged to organize a dedicated meet-up from 1st to 9th December 2019, in support of our differently abled citizens.
@EmekaUlor

WAW 2019 Karachi Accessibility Walk was the sequel of Accessibility walks all around the world.

The walk was scheduled on 6th December at 6 pm, and I reached at starting spot before 15 minutes.

After waiting for 30 minutes for other participants, I started Accessibility walk alone at Hussainabad Food Street which was just start and restaurants there was opening because they serve till next morning.

Start with mapping Accessibility Tayybiz restaurant, and I got too much disappointment that this whole food street haven’t Accessibile entrance for Wheelchairs. The ratio of my disappointment increased, as I proceeded forward.

But I uploaded photos and informations on Google maps what I saw there.
There I had chance to talk with some restaurant owners about this matter, that how they can facilitate the customers who use Wheelchairs, some of them agree and said they never think like that.

As I was alone, after 7pm (the end time of scheduled walk) I extended my walk to Tariq Road Market which is famous for Garments and specially women’s wear. I was sure about Tariq Road that I will get some positivity there by mapping Accessibile places on Google maps.

And honestly I find many places there which was not on the Google maps as there were no enough information or photos about Accessibile Ramps or entrances there.

Started from Dolmen Mall Tariq Road , which was fully Accessibile with Accessibile entrance, Ramps and washrooms, and than other different shops after Dolmen center till Adidas Store .

This accessibility walk gives me a new experience, as every walk gives me something to learn and experience. As like in Srilanka accessibllty walk March 2019 , like I learnt from @IlankovanT , i really want to experience the new things together, along with people who teams up with me,as I want to involve everyone.

Again thanks to Emeka Ulor and #OneAccessibility team, who gave the awareness, so that I along with others can work towards this cause, as this gives me immense peace and aware others about the significance of this, so that the unawared people are enlightened about the sensivity of this issue.

Dear @KashifMisidia bhai another wonderful addition on your pile of fantastic work. I think you have given one more idea. That why not each one of us take at least one famous market of the city and map for accessible entrances and accessible parking for people with disability or on the wheel chair. I think it will be great humanitarian work for our community.

Dyakuyu tobi @RedCatZs ,

You are so right, and I m agree with you, infact I never mind if even nobody join my meetup, but I never canceled any meetup for this reason. Because I believe what you want to do it’s a volunteer work, and sometimes people are free and sometimes they don’t. So the basic thing is to map the places, no matter if you are doing it alone. But if there was more people it could be a great chance to learn more by each other . But I hope next time I will get more people.

Thank you and Shukriya
