After trying a couple of times, Kenya’s finally held it’s first virtual meet-up today. Thanks to @questkv@Benarudo@WanMwangi@GYuge@Saiyen and others who made this a successful and fun meet-up. We hope this is the start of many more. Below is a recap and screenshots of guests abiding by the “Where’s your snack/drink?” guideline.
Google Hangouts has a limit for number of guests so I borrowed my company’s Zoom account to host old and new friends.
Common issue during the meet-up was audio not connecting and network dropping off.
More than 22 Guests joined in from Kenya, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cyprus, Estonia and Uganda.
Rule was to have snacks on the call. Some brought popcorn, beer, wine, an entire kitchen and thermos flasks.
We talked about how we’re surviving through this Corvid season.
During the call, we were invited to @ravindus and @alpha (Cyprus) meetup.
Kept company our fellow guide, Winnie, who was on self quarantine and wasn’t feeling well. She got better when it was time for the snack groufie.
Feedback regarding Maps & Connect UI:
Hard to discover meet-ups on Connect. Can it be easier to discover meet-ups?
Challenging to track down various menu elements such as lists. (Google Devs, hope you’re taking down notes because the response is above my paygrade).
Indian and Sri Lankan community leads, please comment here so some of the meetup attendees from the call can be in touch regarding attending and organising meetups.
We got challenged to host more Kenyan meet-ups (virtually for now, in person later) and for those who never hosted a meetup, here’s a virtual opportunity.
The meet up was amazing, I really enjoyed the virtual meet up mostly because of late we have been indoors and losing touch with the social life but thanks to this meet up we had connect like the old days. I look forward to joining the next virtual meet up as we figure out this Covid-19 pandemic.
@questkv Agreed. Interesting enough, I’ve not left my desk since lunch hour and it’s already meet-up. I enjoy getting to meet various Guides, though can’t wait for to meet people in person.
Thanks @RobAo . It was a great meetup. We had a good time. Knowledge mixed with fun and laughter. It’s great to get to know all you wonderful people from around the world. Specially from African region. Stay safe…
@RobAo Joined little late but enjoyed your meetup. Nice to meet you all.
If you use google meet instead of hangouts there is no limitation to 10 persons. Here is the link to Sri Lanka Local Guides virtual meetup held last week
