On 23 May 2020, the last day of fasting in Ramadan month for our Moslem friends, I hosted a virtual meetup about Foodie Local Guides Talk. Before this day, I posted one of the rule to all the attendees to turn off the camera when we want to eat or drink during the virtual meetup to respect our friends who were in fasting. I really appreciated them who enthusiastically joining this Foodie Local Guides Talk. Hearing and looking at the real foods and photos from each of us, we sometimes gave a joke to our friends who were in fasting. We worried that they cannot continue the fasting. But don’t worry because I am totally sure that they still continue the fasting until the iftar, right?

2) What do you eat during this quarantine days? Whether a homemade cooking, buying from the outside, delivery order, catering facility, etc.
Firstly, let me share a brief of my story. Quarantine days are not really different as the usual days because my mom always cooks on the weekdays. On the weekend, we always buy from the outside or using the food delivery service. Since we are staying and working from home, my mom has more time to cook some complicated dish and taking more time to make, such as :
- Hainanese Chicken Rice (Chinese dish that is so popular in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia)
- Pindang Ikan Patin (fish dish that is so popular from Central Java, Indonesia)
- Beef Tongseng (stew beef from Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia)
- Rujak (variant of fruits with the sweet and spicy peanut sauce)
Most of the attendees eat homemade cooking that is made by themselves, spouse, or parents. Some are buying from the outside and using food delivery service. I found out that some Local Guides are a good home chef!
Just like @StephenAbraham , a day before the meetup, he cooked a big portion of Biryani Rice and gave it to the daily workers. He is indeed a good chef and so kind.
Some moms are also a good chef, just like @doc_dells , @AnikSetyawati that showed us her homemade Pecel, @Marianis showed us the photo of her homemade vegetables and my favorite Bubur Sumsum , @Ddimitra who is a Brownies specialist and a good baker, but she said that she is not good in cooking a dish, so that she often exchange her baking product with her neighbor to a dish. How fun it is!
Attendees shared their story not only verbally or showed the photos, but also did the food tour in their home just like @FalguniP ! If only we could grab the food directly from our screen, it would be perfect
@OSAMA_1 He is amazing! He presented what he made and ate for iftar a day before in a video. Read his story about RAMADAN IFTAR ON THE FLOOR AS A TRADITIONAL . He also showed us his table with lots of foods, snacks, and poured a cup of Arabica Coffee Ah, I would love to have a shot of that!
@Nyainurjanah did the virtual meetup in front of her garden that harvested a lot of vegetables and fruits. She showed us some snacks that will be served for Eid Mubarak. One of them is the Cassava Chips where the cassava is originally from her garden. She wanted to show us Ketupat, the typical food during Eid Mubarak, but unfortunately it was still in the cooking process.
3) What food that you want to eat the most after the pandemic is over?
If you ask me what food that I want to eat the most after the pandemic is over, the answer would be Korean food. The best way to eat Korean food is dining in, especially if we eat Korean BBQ. Check out my post about Authentic and Tasty Korean Restaurant. This is one of my favorite authentic Korean restaurant that I talked during this meetup.
Most of the attendees biggest wish is definitely could meet and hangout together with their friends outside as soon as possible. They miss to hangout in a coffee shop while drinking a good coffee. Some said that they want to eat Japanese food, Burger, Empal Gentong, Seblak, Popcorn, eating at Dhaba, and many more. Through this meetup, we could find some Local Guides who have the same favorite food. I also part of the biggest wish from most of the attendees. Wishing this pandemic could be over soon, so that we could back to live as it used to be and definitely could eat our favorite food outside with our beloved family and friends.
To all the attendees, thank you for participating and sharing your story. It was a pleasure to have you all
If you did not attend this virtual meetup, feel free to share your food story as the agenda above on the comment below. I would be pleased to hear your story.
Happy Eid Mubarak for Local Guides who celebrate it
