[RECAP] Virtual Meet-up Foodie Local Guides Talk Part 3

In this third series of Virtual Meet-up Foodie Local Guides Talk that was held on Saturday, 25 July 2020, we talked everything about coffee and tea. I even did a list and count which team that “won” either #TeamCoffee or #TeamTea. Who wants to know which team is the “winner”? Keep reading this recap ?

Here is the 9 attendees from 5 countries :

  1. Arati Shinde - India
  2. Chananart Chivapruk - Thailand
  3. Devi Dimitra - Indonesia
  4. Ewaade - Nigeria
  5. Indah Nuria - Indonesia
  6. Nyai Nurjanah - Indonesia
  7. Osama Zaina - Jordan
  8. Rosy Kohli - India
  9. Shreeya Barai - India

Are you #TeamCoffee or #TeamTea? It is based on what you like the most either coffee or tea.
I am a #TeamCoffee :coffee:
Who’s with me? Let’s do a count here!

#TeamCoffee :coffee:

  1. Me
  2. Shreeya Barai

#TeamTea ?

  1. Chananart Chivapruk
  2. Indah Nuria
  3. Nyai Nurjanah
  4. Osama Zaina

Wohooo… Congratulations #TeamTea ??
Now I am wondering if I do the count to all of the Local Guides here on Connect, which team will “win”? ?

Now let’s hear the brief of our coffee and tea story.
Started from me, actually I like both coffee and tea, but if I could only choose one, I prefer coffee more. My favorite instant coffee brand is G7 Coffee, a Vietnamese pure black coffee. It is similar with espresso where we could drink it in one shot, because we only need 60 mL hot water to make one portion of the coffee. We could also add sugar, milk, or creamer, but I always drink it without any additional. It contains more than 1% caffeine. Actually, I rarely drink it, but why do I love this one? It is because whenever I feel very very sleepy and tired but I need to stay awake, I will drink this coffee. Trust me, it works really well to make you stay awake from day to night! Please note that I highly do not recommend this coffee for those who has a digestion problem and cannot drink a “strong” caffeine.

Have you ever heard about Dalgona Coffee? I am sure that most of you are familiar with this kind of coffee that became so viral and trending in the beginning of quarantine days after a video from South Korea was posted on YouTube. It is well-known as #DalgonaCoffeeChallenge.

To make Dalgona Coffee, you need to remember the ratio 1:1:1 for instant black coffee powder (without any creamer or milk), sugar, and hot water. To make a portion of Dalgona Coffee, you need to mix one teaspoon of each. Then, we could use whisk, mixer, or fork to whisk it for about 10 minutes in the same direction and constant speed until the texture becomes thick and creamy. After that, we could serve it as the top of any kind of milk that you like. I recommend the full cream or fresh milk.

I love to custom this drink. I added my favorite Lotus Biscoff (I named it Dalgona Coffee Biscoff). Replacing the milk with Houjicha (roasted green tea) is also a great thing (I named it Houjicha Dalgona Coffee Biscoff).

I brought the attendees to a small virtual tour to a cool coffee and tea shop. It is Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Shanghai, China. This is the special Starbucks concept where so far there are only 6 stores in Tokyo, Shanghai, Seattle, Chicago, New York, and Milan.

To know more about this cool place, you could read my Connect post about A PARADISE FOR COFFEE & TEA LOVERS

As my fellow #TeamCoffee, so glad to know that @Shreeya_99 has made her own Dalgona Coffee. @OSAMA_ likes both coffee and tea, but he prefers tea more. Appreciate him to share both of his Turkish coffee and tea story. Since he is a #TeamTea, he even showed us a cup of tea and three different leaves in his house that can be mixed with the tea. One of the them is mint leaf. Three of them will give different kind of tea taste. Interesting!

@indahnuria is indeed a tea lovers! She did a virtual tour to her house where she has lots of tea collections from both local and overseas brand. Have you ever heard about Ricola? I am familiar with this brand with its candy products. But you know what, we just knew from her that Ricola also produces tea product. It is one of her favorite tea from Germany. She collects a lot of tea, such as tea that will make you fall asleep quickly and the sweet pink color pomegranate tea. Just like @Nyainurjanah, their favorite local tea bag brand is Sosro.

Let’s see the recommended local coffee and tea shop!

Indonesia :
Kopi KurangLebih (recommendation from me)
This is their first established shop before they expand their branch to several cities in Java Island, Indonesia. Their most favorite coffee menu is the iced coffee with fresh milk and palm sugar. I love its less sweet taste with more dominant coffee taste.

Kopi APA (recommendation from @Nyainurjanah)
This is the only one coffee shop in Nyai’s working area. Besides coffee, this place also serves tea. She said that this place is good for hanging out after working.

TWG Tea Salon & Boutique (recommendation from @indahnuria)
TWG Tea is a tea brand originally from Singapore, but who can refuse to spend the tea time here with its luxury ambiance, beautiful presentation of cakes, and a warm tea?

Jordan (recommendation from @OSAMA_ ) :
Rami Alrajabi
The small coffee shop that serves takeaway order only. Besides coffee, they also sell some cookies.

New York Cafe
A great coffee shop that provides both indoor and outdoor seating. Suitable to watch football competition together here.

India (recommendation from @Shreeya_99) :
Cafe Coffee Day Ashoknagar
One of Shreeya’s favorite coffee shop. This place provides variant of coffee and another refreshing non coffee drink, too.

Thailand (recommendation from @Ant_Bad_Yogi) :
Pareto Cafe
Comfortable small cafe that provides indoor and outdoor seating. They serve variant of beautiful cakes along with the interesting beverages. One of them is Thai Tea that will make us drooling.

Fun facts during this virtual meet-up

  1. With lesser attendees this time, but this virtual meet-up was finished in 2+ hours. It was the same when I hosted a virtual meet-up with 20+ attendees where everybody got the chance to share their story.

  2. When everybody finished to share their coffee or tea story, we started to talk about random things that was still related to coffee and tea. Just like @Nyainurjanah that does not drink coffee anymore because one day when she drank a coffee, she got a headache for three days! If she wants to start drinking a coffee again, me and @Ant_Bad_Yogi recommends her to start with Decaf or Decaffeine Coffee that contains small percentage of caffeine.

  3. @Nyainurjanah asked about slimming tea. As a tea lovers, @indahnuria said that slimming tea will not be effective to make your body slim if you do not maintain your eating habit and do exercise, too. You are totally right!

  4. Although me @Shreeya_99 are a #TeamCoffee, but we both did not have coffee during this virtual meet-up. I had a tea because it was already evening to have a cup of coffee, whereas Shreeya had her Haldi-wala Dhudh (milk drink with turmeric and spices).

  5. Special thanks to @Ewaade_3A . Although she is neither #TeamCoffee nor #TeamTea, she has already told me before coming, but appreciate her presence to this virtual meet-up. She shared her yoghurt healthy cup with us.
