[Recap] unofficial photo walk Delhi

22nd July 2018 we (me, @JMD9 @NithinNambiar , @KapilS ) decided to a meet-up so we started out meet-up with having a cup of tea at doll museum Near ITO, New Delhi after that started our photo walk so we choose one of Haunted Place of Delhi. Feroz Shah Kotla Fort.

Here some info about it source Wikipedia

The Feroz Shah Kotla (Hindi: फ़िरोज़ शाह कोटला, : Urdu: فروز شاہ کوٹلا) or Kotla (Hindi: कोटला, Urdu: کوٹلا) was a fortress built by Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq to house his version of Delhi city called Ferozabad.

A pristine polished sandstone Topra Ashokan pillar from the 3rd century B.C. rises from the palace’s crumbling remains, one of many pillars of Ashoka left by the Mauryan emperor; it was moved from Topra Kalan in Pong Ghati of Yamunanagar districtin Haryana to Delhi under orders of Firoz Shah Tughlaq of Delhi Sultanate, and re-erected in its present location in 1356. The original inscription on the obelisk is primarily in Brahmi script but language was prakrit, with some Pali and Sanskrit added later. The inscription was successfully translated in 1837 by James Prinsep.This and other ancient lats (pillars, obelisk) have earned Firoz Shah Tughlaq and Delhi Sultanate some fame for its architectural patronage in spite of the wide and well-recorded destruction of Hindu and Jain temples and using their components in mosques.

Other than the Ashokan Pillar, the Fort complex also houses the Jami Masjid (Mosque), a Baoli and a large garden complex.

Hi @AmbrishVarshney ,

Thanks for sharing your interesting photos, that’s a very nice initiative. The fortress does look haunted, especially in this gloomy weather.

Do you mind sharing your own impressions of the place as well? Should other Local Guides who happen to be in the area visit this site?

You can also organise an official meet up so that more Local Guides can join you next time.

Kind regards :slight_smile:

@DeniGu here is my review

There is a wall that is black from incense soot and candle fire. They land in droves on Thursdays, the supplicants, some with wishes in their hearts, most others carry letters instead. More about that later. No one knows how.

Lots people say in fort Jinns made their home.

Regarding meet-up I am hosting my 4th meet-up on 28th July meet-up shows 42 attending but I have confirmation of 22-24 Lgs

Does that mean that the fort is a sacred place, @AmbrishVarshney ?

Such places always have this mysterious air about them, humbling you when you are there. It’s truly fascinating.

I’m looking forward to a nice recap of your official meet-up on the 28th of July!
