[RECAP] Timo's Burger Crawl!

Hello Local Guides Connect!

Today, a few of Sydney’s Local Guides came together to spend some time eating some great food and getting to know one another via @TimothyVdp 's event. Many thanks for hosting yet another meetup for the love of burgers and real food. Our first meet-up was only three weeks ago, how keen! Feel free to read the recap. Anywho, this one technically wasn’t a burger crawl. We made our way to Ze Pickle, Surry Hills and THAT was the only burger joint we went to, ahah! Let’s start shall we?

Saturday 8th July 2017 (Burger Food Crawl? Meetup)

2:00pm. Still on the train and running a little late. Darn trackwork! It was around 2:13pm when I had first walked into Ze Pickle. Looking around, the waitress asked how many were to be seated, but then I just said that I was “waiting for a mate”. Looked around for a bit but I didn’t notice anyone yet. I walked outside for a bit, then returned back to Ze Pickle and all of a sudden I saw @TimothyVdp , @miguelmartin and about twelve other people, with a plate of these loaded fries shared amongst all of them!

Woah, talk about a huge turnout!

Our group was a mixed bag. Some attendees were Tim’s workmates or friends. The Local Guides I knew were @TimothyVdp , @miguelmartin , Nizar Noor and myself. Others found the event through meetup.com or were curious by marking their interest on the created Facebook event. But our group had a few common interests and shared hobbies that in mind that ignited fuel in our conversations:

  • The use of drones in Sydney according to CASA laws and regulations. There is an application called Where Can I Fly? which is a government-developed application that shows where you can fly copters and drones around.
  • YouTube, vlogging and the whole process in-between.
  • The tech community of start-ups and offices: Fishburners.

After we had finished our burgers the following words came out of Tim’s mouth, that he simply couldn’t have any more! One burger, with a bit of fries and that pretty much concluded the burger crawl before it even started ahah! But that’s alright, you’ll be on a burger diet for a while. It was great meeting some like-minded, goal-oriented people who bounced off ideas and information to one another and also encouraged each other.

Dessert came after a bit of a hill’s walk upwards to Gelato Messina (I mean really, everyone has a separate stomach for dessert!) and as some of us congregated on the storefront’s sidewalk, it eventually became time for us to head on off our ways. Of course, not without a little bit of a group photo!

Afterwards I had sushi and miso soup at this newly opened Japanese restaurant down the road, but since that isn’t part of the meet-up I’m not uploading those pictures. I had a blast meeting new people, seeing familiar faces and all the positive inspiration energy that arose from today being with a group of passionate people, videographers, photographers, tech wizzies, comedians and local guides alike.

Good luck Tim on your travels back to the motherland, so many kudos to you for organising these! Looks like we won’t be having another food crawl for a while, but now that I’ve discovered meetup.com thanks to you, my journeys of the love of good food will still continue!

Also we missed you @Justine2807 and other Sydney Local Guides, but of course there is always time for food o’clock!

Adios, local guides!

Thank you @Briggs for caring and sharing. That looks like you all had a delicious day out and heaps of fun. There are lots of people in the pictures joining in all the fun, future Google Local Guides let’s hope.

I really wish I could have been there, I will have to make it up at our next meet up. Cheers.

@Briggs OMG Gelato Messina! When I was in Sydney last year I made a point to go there because everyone was raving about it. It was sooooo good! Thanks for sharing this recap and great photos. Sounds like we’ll start seeing more meet-ups happening in Sydney, which is great.

PS. I hope you were able to convince the rest of the attendees to join Local Guides

WOAH I go to Sydney at least once every year but have never visit any of these food places! OK fine, I have to admit that I only hang around at Surry Hills and Paddington (fav area ever!) and honestly I can’t remember any places that impressed me with their food… sad. I know who to call now the next time I am there, @Briggs ;D

Hehehe, thank you @HelloJess for your post about Messina! It is so good, absolute rave. There are plentiful ice-creameries and gelato places also in Newtown, that of which Cow and the Moon really brings the cows back home for me hehe!

And @JeslynL , Surry Hills/Paddington is really the place to be. It’s really starting to emerge and grow even better as Sydney’s premier food district, but it now looks like many of the surrounding suburbs are starting to take notice. Oh gosh I love food, I wish I had a stomach that doesn’t inflate with the smallest meal.

Also if the person you think you know who to call the next time you visit Sydney is me, you’ll totally be in the dark ahah! I have absolutely no idea about all the nice restaurants around Sydney (okay, maybe I do), but Timo’s the guy who pretty much lives/breathes/enthralls impressive and seems to always finds the best food around the area.

I will come out for any food crawls/meet-ups though, in a flash!

FOR SURE I’m up for a food crawl by @TimothyVdp or yourself or any Local Guide the next time I am in Sydney!!! I’m guessing it’ll involve a lot of burgers if Tim’s Quest for Sydney’s Best Burger is still on… Not like I mind it at all?!
