Recap - The Worldwide Geo-Walk Nigeria - We Discovered The Hidden Gems In Lagos Community

Recap Lagos, Nigeria The Worldwide Geo-Walk

Hello everyone and a warm welcome to the recap of the Worldwide Geo-Walk Lagos, Nigeria. On behalf of the Lagos Local guides community I would be sharing a recap of our Discover The Hidden Gems in our Community with you all. Our Discovering the hidden gems in our community kickstarted on Friday 25th of August at 10am being also one of the first community to kick start this Worldwide Event by Local Guides all around the world to discover the priceless hidden gems in their community. Despite the heavy rainfall that as well kind of held back some of our activities we were able to still make it successful and memorable event everyone who attended would always look forward to and reminisce about as well. We were on wheels driving two cars covering a total distance of 200+Km driving on this day trying to discover and find priceless and hidden gems in our community. Firstly we visited the National Theatre Lagos.

The National Theatre Lagos, Nigeria is the primary centre for the performing of arts in Nigeria. It is located in Iganmu, Surulere, Lagos and it is were the collection of National Gallery of Modern Nigerian Art is housed. This was built in 1976 as a focal point for the celebration of Nigerian art and culture and it is one of the best masterpiece of architecture of Nigeria. It is also notable as The National (Arts) Theatre as it is the core location for performing arts in Nigeria. It was also built to promote Nigerian culture and arts. The National Theatre sits somberly, shaped like a military cap, awaiting those who would watch Nigeria’s story, re-enacted on-stage, in the words and gesticulations and voices of its people. If you want to know more about the National Theatre Nigeria please visit this link:National Theatre Lagos Nigeria

Our Next stop was the National Museum Nigeria in Lagos. The National Museum of Nigeria in Lagos houses both the ancient/cultural and political civilization of the Nigerian Society and also the civilization of a an African culture dating from the A.D’s to the BCs. The museum has a very notable collection of the typical Nigerian art and culture including pieces of statuary and carvings and archaeological and ethnographic exhibits. The museum houses the stages of the adaptation of the Nigerian child starting from birth to the adulthood and also what happens next after that. We spent a lot of time in the museum going round to see the priceless and rich history of our country. The museum also has important relics and artifacts of one of the most ancient culture and history of Nigeria, the Iron Age history of the The Nok Culture Nigeria. If you want to know about the Nok Culture please visit this links: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nok_culture and this: http://archive.archaeology.org/1107/features/nok_nigeria_africa_terracotta.html .Due to the laws of the museums we were not allowed to take photo’s in the courtyards of the museum but however our eyes and ears really benefited from what we saw and we even gained more knowledge about our society on this day. Am so sorry I can’t share pictures from inside the museum with you all but however we were allowed to take some photo’s outside the courtyard of the museum :).

After leaving the National Museum we drove again to our next stop which is a Galleria to quickly do some lite map editing and add some photo’s of the galleria to the Google Map’s. We went round and took some 360photo’s and did some few edits.

After leaving the galleria we headed to visit the new city being built in our community to make enquiries about how it would affect our community and the impact it would have. Due to some promotional contents involved in some of the images I will not be sharing pictures about this visit, but trust me when we visited the atmosphere was lovely and the place itself is located on the ocean side.

After leaving the Atlantic city we headed to a shopping mall again to do so quick and little shopping and headed of to a local restaurant where we went to quench of the days hunger with the typical Nigerian Jollof rice I mentioned above. The picture above of the rice was what we ate at the restaurant. While eating I saw someone who opened his laptop and talking about the beautiful photo he did took, fortunately I stumbled on the photo and I approached him and ask him if he knows what Local Guides is. He said No then I saw the perfect opportunity to make him understand what it is. I told him to join the Local guides program and as well the Street view trusted program. I made him to understand that his photo’s were wasting on the laptop device that if he actually drop this photo’s on the Google maps he will earn views and as well millions will benefit from his photo. I also informed him to as well the benefits that comes along with the program by providing him links to the help Center section were he could read to a full understanding. He was happy as well and promised to sign up and join our communities later. After eating and enjoying ourselves for a whole full day we were Happy and our hearts were indeed glad. Everyone departed to each of their respective home, I also had to make a 2hour drive to my residence as well after a long day. Firstly I will like to thank God for protecting us during the course of our meet up driving and visiting places despite the heavy rainfalls I will also like to thank @Mayford for making adequate preparations, organizing guests and as well making the attendees comfortable. We thank @OSAMA for organizing Worldwide Geo-walk as well it gave us more avenue to discover 2 great hidden and priceless gems in our community. We also thank the meetup participants for coming and supporting this event, you all did well. Also we can’t forget the behind the scene guys Local Guides Team, yes we thank you too for creating a wounderdul avenue as this for us to be able to explore and discover hidden gems in our community in a dynamic way, but all greatest thanks goes to God who make this possible for each and everyone of us to have this event safe and sound and returning to our homes unhurt. Thank you everyone and we are looking forward to the next event as well.

Thank you @Osaka78forTRUMP for your warm and kind words. We are always happy because any time we organize a meet up we meet new people and we also expose and learn about the cultures of each an everyone. Shockingly to tell you, all the meetup participants were from different and diversed cultures in Nigeria. Having the sense and feel you can get to interact with people you have always met online and now you see them physically, no doubt brings a sense of joy to your hearts. Coupled with that fact as well am always a happy person who has a great sense of humour too and you can also see how I stated here in my introduction Introduce Yourself September am always happy I don’t even know why but I am always a happy person

This is awesome. I love the use of the Disney font, hehe. Lagos looks like a really interesting place to be. One of the biggest cities in Africa? Great work on powering through even with the heavy rain, not even weather can stop you from what you love to do!

Thanks @Briggs you are right not even the weather could stop us in what we always love to do. You also need to add Lagos to your wish list if you have plans in visiting Africa. Lagos is a must visit. The vibes of the city alone is a must see. Indeed Lagos is one of the beautiful places to live in Nigeria as well.

Thanks @AkmalB for your kind words The meetup recap as already been ready since a day after the event, but I couldn’t publish it because I was also travelling and coupled with the fact that I had to cope with work as well. But am glad I could be able to finally publish it. I always use google docs to write my stories or post and save it before I come to connect to post so I don’t loose any information as I have lost many beautiful stories in the past of which I can’t even think of starting all over to write again, because I usually get my inspiration while writing a thing itself :P. Thanks for reading and loving our meetup recap we are happy you like all the lovely moments we all shared together
