[RECAP] The Egyptian Authentic Foodie

Welcome again to another Local Guides Egypt Community adventure, and this time we are doing a food crawling. It’s the first time for our community to conduct such meeting, where we have opted for one of the most famous Egypt’s authentic food in the great Cairo city, El Prince!

El Prince is one of the very known location in Egypt which is serving several plates of the Egyptian culture foods. The restaurant where found in Talaat Harab Street, Imbaba district, on 1980. It was very famous for the Egyptian receipts like potatoes tajins, Molokhaya, different kinds of meat parts, sausage, liver, soups…. etc.

The restaurant name refers to his owner, Mr. Nasser El Prince!

The place is usually full of guests and foodies from around Egypt, and foreigners as well. During the day, you will have to put your self on a waiting list, since all tablets are occupied around the clock till 4 AM!

Due to weather conditions and rain, we have got some absent excuses from some attendees, where 4 of us have met at the meeting point, just beside the restaurant.

I was glad to meet again my dearest Local Guides Egypt team: Dr. Nabil Aziz, Abdel Aziz, Ahmed Abou-Okail.

Choosing our plates in this place is very confusing, since there are several dishes that can’t be skipped, but our stomach is the limit ?

While are running in menu choose game, there was a pre-set of Egyptian salad plates have been server.

After many discussions for sharing options, we have gone for the following main plates:

Beef Sausage with red sauce: that’s a beef sausage cooked on a grill then mixed with a tomato rich mixture that add aromatic flavor.

Beef Sausage with butter: the same beef sausage of the previous plate but served in butter sauce.

Potatoes Tajin with Meat: That’s a nice sliced potato in a tajin cooked with a cow’s beef chopped.

Meat Paper: It’s briefly sliced meat with an herbal sauce and tomato cooked under pressure.

Molokhaya: A real unique green soup, one of must try while you are in Egypt.

Rice with butter: A good portion of the Egyptian rice, cooked with butter recipe.

The restaurant is really serving the food quickly, since the outside cooking area is working non-stop to produce the complete menu in advance.

It’s very hard to keep any food remaining in such place, we have gone over all the very tasty food in no time ?

We have got some members, where it was their first try for this place, and they have a great impression about the atmosphere and the food.

Cairo is really a great city to enjoy a rich food experience on all levels, beside you can easily find all the world’s cuisine within. With places stays open after midnight, no matter what you are looking for, you will find it in Cairo.

We have really enjoyed our food walk, and it was a good opportunity also to share our Local Guides experiences.

Till we meet again in our next adventure, hope you keep discovering the world thru our great Local Guides community.

Hi @ShadySalama ,

Congratulations for your first organized meet-up in your region!

I’ve never tried Egypt food but have plans to visit Egypt next year. I liked from the pictures that you shared with us, this dish: Potatoes Tajin with Meat.

How many Local Guides attended this meet-up? I’ve checked your photos and as I can see you’ve tried a lot of food there and had great time together.

Great, @ShadySalama

I remember Talaat Harb St in Cairo from twenty-five years ago! As I read your review the name jumped immediately straight back into my head :slightly_smiling_face: I remembet eating fuul (beans) there a lot.

What’s in the green soup? It looks unusual. (I’d have to leave out the meat, as I’m vegetarian.)

Best regards, Shady.
