Finally, I conducted my first meet-up with the young people of my village Chapri on 30th July 2020. I was worried about the number of attendees. But finally, it was over, and around 15 young, potential, and progressive people joined me with the dream to be a positive local guide. Among them, four attendees came from other villages. I choose Asiya Hasan Secondary School I added this school to the Google Maps during the meet-up as an example of Add Place.
I started the session with an introduction of Google Maps. I explained to them what Google Maps is and why we should enrich it with the information about our village and nearby areas that we visit. Then I told them how to add a place in Google Maps. I used Asiya Hasan Secondary School to add to Google Maps in front of them and it was approved within minutes. I also showed them how to edit and existing places. I created a friendly environment and tried my best to make the full session an enjoyable one. I used the local business that is already existed in Google Maps. I explained the ways to add photos and how to write Reviews, Check the facts, uncover missing info, and Answer Questions.
[Attendees are showing google maps during my presentation]
My second session was on the Connect Forum. I shortly explained what it is and how to use it. Attendees were interested to know about this platform. They became interested to use this platform. I tried my best to give them basic information about the Connect Forum. I also explained a little about Google Photos. Though I planned a special segment as Question & Answer at the end of the meet-up, the attendees were so interactive that they asked many questions during my presentation and finally they had not any question left at the end!!. Finally, we took some group photos and said sayonara to each other.
You can see the meet-up Album . You can see the video of the meet-up also. The venue was close to a road and for this reason, there may have noises of the vehicles, I do apologize for that. The mobile cameraman forgot to click the “start video” button and for this reason, the first half of the meet-up is missing in this video. Please pardon me.
Thanks for your nice comment @AmbrishVarshney . You and other core members of #teamindia always inspire me to do something good. I hope to get continuous support from you and others in my future journey as a local guide. Regards.
@MukulR bhai, superb. Recap written nicely. It’s really wonderful to see you taking such initiatives…as I said before you are a true leader. God bless you. Stay safe
Dear @TravellerG sir, Thanks for your nice comments. This is my first meet-up in my village and I was very happy to host this with the young people in my village. You and your team always inspire me. Thanks for sharing your 2017 meet-up info. Regards.
As I have mentioned in the post, I tried my best to make this meet-up enjoyable to the attendees, and as a result, they liked it @TusharSuradkar Thanks for your keen observation of the video. Did you visit the album of this meet-up, though it is not that much rich at all . Regards.
Well, I missed noting it @MukulR since it was only a single word.
I normally hyperlink a whole line for the album in my meetup recaps.
the photos are all good and the school is in many ways looks similar to the one near my house in Pune, in that it is also made of tin but it being a temporary arrangement seems OK. The government is building a huge permanent multi-story concrete structure for the school.
Is it the same with the school you visited as well?
Thanks for your nice comments @RosyKohli Also thanks for your appreciation and for liking the photos and video. You are right, if children get better facilities they will do better as a student. Regards.
This meet-up is really cool @MukulR the more we spread the word, the more we enrich Maps and the more our local communities can utilise that data to better their lives. Great effort in showing so many people. Perhaps we’ll get a few new Local Guides out of this too.
There is no need to tag people to see your posts, we’ll find them :).
This school was established in 2015, in that case, it is a new school @TusharSuradkar . Moreover, it is run by the local people and not eligible yet to get government help. But in the future, it may get government help to build the infrastructures. You will get thousands of schools like this one in India and Bangladesh. I hope the permanent structure will be built in the near future.
Thanks for your point on the Album. Next time I will follow the same.
