[RECAP] Sri Lanka Shipwreck Meetup ⚓

Meetups are my passion and I love making them adventurous. Capturing street view in different areas, rainforest, and few other interesting places. Since I’m a diver I thought of having a deep underwater meet up too.

Anyway, I had a doubt about whether people will come. I know there are many people who can’t dive, but the challenge was to find a local guide who can dive. Initially, I was gathering the list of people who could join me in the venture. Fellow local guide @IsurangaD , joined me. I have asked people with PADI license to support our fellow local guides who will be diving for the first time. These PADI licensed trainers are paid for the session and they’ll be bringing a complete diving kit along with the cylinder and all. There were few more people who joined us from their diving school. They first gave them all instructions including proper hands-on training. I again double checked with the trainers whether will it be safe to take everyone under the deep sea. They said that they will ensure their safety in all ways and they may sometimes fail to take photographs since this is their first experience and they might get excited.

Then we all got into the boat and reached the diving site. All were happy and cheering, the instructors taught the way to back dive into the water from the boat. Some of them were a bit reluctant. Anyway, they did it. For every diver, there was a PADI certified diver. They took them to step by step into the deep sea. I took many photos of my co divers.

All of us could see many colour fish and many nice corals. The driving session was planned to be 40 minutes. however, for most of them It ended up in 20 minutes as they got muscular cramps.

Since they were all new drivers, they have paddled the mud and sand at the bottom of the sea and water quality was turbulent. So that I couldn’t capture the shipwreck well.

I’m thinking of finding a better way to sort out the issues faced by first time divers in uploading photos to Google maps. I’ll be sharing certain tips soon. Also, there will be another meet up in May. If anyone is interested, you can join me.

Unawatuna is a tourist place so we did a photo walk along the streets after the diving session. Overall, it was fun Filled meet up.
@Seedra , @ThanulakshanS as promised I will take you next month to Diving and you can enjoy the hidden underwater nature

Hey @IlankovanT ,

I was waiting to see that  Thanks a lot for making this meet-up happen! The photos are very interesting and I liked a lot the blue damsel fishes. Do you know how exactly this ship sank in the waters and for how long it stays there? It seems very rusty and old.

I ask the same question to the local diver and he said it is too old and a small piece only left from that. I’m planning my next underwater meetup next month and I will show many beautiful photos soon

@AnuradhaP you can join my next meetup, it’s on May. don’t worry about swimming, you can get a certified trainer who can take you there with safety measures, but you have to pay some money to them. they will give all the scuba diving kits to use.
