[RECAP] Sri Lanka Accessibility Walk ♿ - April 2019

This is about that accessibility day on my Monthly calendar. I have been hosting an accessibility walk every month since October 2018.

This month, due to the prevailing tensed situation in Sri Lanka, I was unsure of the participants to my meet up. Also, I was scared to reach that destination where the meet up was scheduled too. However, I didn’t want to cancel this meetup, so I announced on the meetup board about the change in place, and also I changed the event in to “Chat and Discussion about accessibility”.

@ThanulakshanS joined me in this meetup and we hosted it at an administrative building in Battaramulla. However, we could host this meet up only up to 45 minutes. We both were talking about the situation in Sri Lanka and how it could impact hosting meetups and gathering in groups on public places. Also, we discussed how safe we should stay in this risky time.

Then we both started roaming around that building looking into accessibility aspects. We could see many relevant signs and ramps facilitating accessibility; also in the cafeteria and several other places too.

Then we started roaming around that building and we could realize certain accessibility aspects near the canteen and other places like washroom and all. The name and signboards were erected in very vibrant colors that are easily visible to all. We visited a few other places within the building and returned home safely.

Thanks, Thanu for joining me and making this meet up a useful one rather than canceling this.

I can’t imagine hosting a meetup if I were you @IlankovanT in this tense situation after the Easter bombings. Could have been easily arrested and all.

Anyway, as they say, fortune favors the brave.

Hope we can all go back to our routines soon. Thanks for taking this risk on behalf of the specially abled people, Lankans & all the local guides :+1::kissing_heart:

@RajievR don’t worry about the security situations, we can arrange next meet-ups in a rural area…it may be very beautiful and fun and lot of uncover missing places.

Is this success idea?
