RECAP - Small Business Update on Baner Road in Pune

On 14th September, local guides in Pune joined hands to update small businesses they had added or reviewed a few years ago.

We found that several small businesses had moved or underwent rebranding at the same location.

:zap: The highlight of this activity was a landmark Vijay Talkies that was dismantled a few months back but still existed on Google Maps.

@AjitThite , @NERKARAMIT , @ShubhamWaman , and @TusharSuradkar participated in the meetup.
Other guest local guides were Swapnil Gangwal and Dhaval Sethi.

It was a fun, learning, and enriching experience.

Ajit Thite also highlighted the importance of clear and clutter-free photos in Google Maps.
He demonstrated the ‘Magic Clean’ tool inside Google Photos

Here is an example I tried.

  1. My bag was removed from the scooter seat.
  2. My umbrella was removed from the street.
  3. The goods bag was removed from the lorry and the curtain was restored.

Truly magical!

After that, we settled down at Chotu Tapriwala Cafe.

At the Cafe, local guides continued to share tips and tricks about Google Maps.

Shubham Waman shared information about the Local Guides program with other visitors at the cafe.

The Local Guides tribe in Pune is growing day and night, by leaps and bounds.

Amit awarded a Ramen pin to Shubham for winning the Google Maps trivia from the previous Ramen meetup. :ramen:

Amit Nerkar also distributed tiny compasses to all attendees :compass:
Ajit put this compass on his smartwatch band.
This will be helpful to me when Google Maps prompts me to head west on a cloudy day

As we share a common hobby of philately, Amit Nerkar also generously shared a set of dozens of Indian postage stamps depicting several Terracotta temples, Ayodhya Ram Janma Bhoomi Temple, and Various City Gates.

This meetup was in response to and inspired by the small business initiative by Ajit Thite.
