Time Square is an entertainment center, tourist destination and a commercial hub in Midtown Manhattan of New York City.
Facts about Time Square:
It’s one of the world’s busiest pedestrian areas.
It attracts 50 million estimated visitors annually.
330,000 pass through Time Square daily.
460,000 walk through Time Square in its busiest days.
it’s fondly called “The Center of the Universe”
These enumerated aforementioned facts informed my decision to organize this Photo-Walk to explore the splendor, marvel, sights and sounds of this Time Square busy universe. One of the highlights of this meet-up is the the “Rumor of War” statue that was made by Kehinde Wiley, a Nigerian-American artist. He was also commissioned in 2017 to paint a portrait of former President Barack Obama for the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, which has portraits of all the US presidents. Isn’t that amazing?
@Specobelle, @Sandra24, Mobi, Kanny Uzoukwu and I where all blown away when we found out this sculptural edifice that accentuates the beauty of the Time Square was made by a Nigerian. The knowledge of this excites me immensely because he’s actually my kinsmen.
We had an awesome time taking photos and making videos of Time Square’s finest, and also visit coffee shops in between to grab a cup of coffee because it’s still winter. Though, for some reason Sandra wasn’t interested in the coffee.
Sandra, Mobi, Chinonso, and Modupe and Kanny were pretty new and that a availed @Specobelle and I the opportunity to elucidate further what the Google Local Guides Program it’s all about.
I had so much fun today with @U-royFelixA and @user_not_found in Times Square. Like others, I was blown away at the statue ‘Rumors of War’ and the message it imparted. It was cold and shivering but Times Square was packed to the brim as usual. 2 hours felt like minutes because of the fun and knowledge on the meet up while we touched places like the Broadway, Madame Tussauds, Ripleys Odditorium and lots of outdoor screens. On our way out we toured Times Square subway Station and Grand Central shuttle port. I’m eagerly excited for next Saturday’s ‘Food Crawl’…
