The meetup was organized by a group of local guides who are passionate about their city and want to share it with others. I was amazed by the enthusiasm and knowledge of the guides. They provided a wealth of information about the city’s history, culture, and attractions.
Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and it was a great opportunity to make new friends. I am so glad I had the chance to attend this meetup. It was an incredible experience. They discussed the various tasks they’ve taken on, such as adding new places, editing existing information, and uploading photo.
@AyonSaha , one of the most active local guides, shared tips on how to make the most out of editing Google Maps. He talked about the importance of personal privacy and avoiding possible spamming steps. They also shared their favorite methods of finding hidden gems and unique places to add to Google Maps.
Shahinur Islam shared his incredible experience of mapping during the pandemic. He talked about how google maps helped him to adjust to a new city.
Sabbirul, a level 7 local guide, shared about his first-ever meetup at Dhaka; he attended there by traveling almost 400km. He is meeting this many local guides in his city for the first time.
Zinnat got introduced to local guides a few months ago. He was so excited to see all these local guides in one place and shared his recent contributions to the extreme rural village where he lives. He is a level 5 local guide now.
Najmul Islam, a software developer, shared his story about how he grew his interest in technology by contributing to local guides and other tech volunteering platforms. He is a chemistry graduate working as a software developer and started his own software company.
Khaled Masud Emon loves traveling places, he was an extreme user of google maps, and now he contributes to maps so that other people can access information about any place he knows well. We want to present the country to other countries by enriching information by contributing to Google Maps. We want to increase community and communication through mapping. - he added.
Sm Sajib shared how he got involved in this community through one of his friends and developed his language skills and networking. He got a scholarship from a foreign university and preparing for higher study abroad.
Durjoy, Shahadat, Atik, Rabbi, Sadik, and Robi all had an interesting and unique story about how they got involved and found happiness in contributing to help mass people.
Thanks to Shahinur Islam, who managed all the online communication and event promotion; thanks to Atik, he helped to enrich the venue earlier to welcome us all with a banner written by Rajshahi Local Guides. We have got some random guests asking about the Local Guides. Ashik helped to capture a short video from the meetup, and Zinnat arranged food for us to celebrate the guiding star achievement.
At the end of the meetup, the local guides agreed that volunteering to edit Google Maps was a rewarding experience. We all planned for regular events where we could add more people to contribute voluntarily.
