Hopefully, you are passing the great holidays with your friends & family. At this wonderful moment, I wanna take a turn you about our last Friday meetup “Ornaments of Accessibility - Dhaka” Sure that’s will make your holidays more prestigious, let’s take a tour-
‘Ornaments of Accessibility’ is the first Google supported meet-up in Bangladesh, also it was my first meet-up. The main theme of the meet-up was to enable wheelchair accessibility at all places including the workplace, office, park, public transport station etc. So that disabled people can find this accessibility information at home through a fingertip on Google Maps.
Timeline of Meet-up: We started our journey very first morning at Rabindra Sarobar - Dhanmondi, Dhaka with some morning snacks. Here’s joined together about 90 local guides fellow from all over the country, those guys are the most active and dedicated their contributions as well. Later a brief from the host about the consequence of accessibility for the disabled community.
We have made three groups for checking the accessibility of offices, schools, apartment buildings & several businesses that located road 7A, 8A, 9A at Dhanmondi. To distribute, host provided us with some paper leaflet about Local Guides program to assume more acquaintance, also sightly about Google Maps.
Inside the roads that I have mentioned, our team attaches an accessibility sticker to some wheelchair accessible places. Also, we had tried to convince the authorities about the importance of accessibility. Many have promised us they will make a separate ramp for wheelchair users.
After verifying accessibility information from the three areas, local guides fellow gathered and formed a human chain along the road in front of Unimart - Wellbeing Pharmacy and waited there a while.
After complete this session, all attendees assembled in the restaurant The Cave Kitchen to have the lunch. In the meantime, there was a Q/A concourse of the meet-up. Experienced guides have given cognizant about several facts such as Contributions, quality of guiding and more. Heartfelt thanks to Connect Moderator dear @SumaiyaZafrin for joining with us and deliver your vital speech about mapping.
Later this, some unique gifts have been distributed between attendees and all fellow are joined in a combined photo at once.
At 4:00 pm of the evening, our meet-up has reached the consummation. End of the day my experience was a lot. It was truly dignified opportunity to do something for the disabled community with impulse. As a local guide, I always love to contribute for the benefits of people, and that’s my passion.
