Recap: Orlando, FL Pizza Crawl

Orlando may be known by many as a tourist town for people interested in Mickey, Harry Potter, roller coasters, outlet malls and pretty much anything touristy you can imagine. But for 4 Million of us, we call the Orlando Metropolitan area home and you might be surprised to know how much more there is to do, see and eat here!

We are a town of foodies and enjoy our food so much we have a rather high success rate of local establishments being successful in expansions within Orlando, elsewhere in the state and even nationally. For this month’s meet up, we chose a food least likely to be associated with Orlando (pizza) but you might be surprised at the options we have for our locals and visitors. The pizza crawl took place in Downtown Orlando and we tested out a few of the unique options we have available.

The group went to 4 places and walked in between each to help burn some of the calories. We started with the biggest slices of them all at Lazy Moon. Lazy Moon is an example of a local business that has been able to grow and expand. They started out near the University of Central Florida and gained a cult like following by college students and locals who were intrigued by their extremely large pizza pies. Recently, Lazy Moon opened a location near Downtown so we definitely needed to check it out.

The next stop was at another local favorite, Anthony’s Thornton Park, which none of us had tasted before and were all very happy to report it tasted as good as we had heard. We walked from there around Lake Eola (which is the lake with the fountain you may have seen anytime you see pictures of Orlando that are not at a theme park) over to our third stop - Metro Espresso Pizza. This pizza cafe offered a low key vibe with close proximity to the lake so we all agreed it would be a great place to pick up a slice and then enjoy it while watching the view.

Lastly, we went to Gitto’s pizza right in the heart of the nightlife area of Orlando. Gitto’s has been there for a very long time which meant a few of us had eaten there before but we all reported back that it was just as good, if not better, than we remembered it.

Here is a link to the photo album of our meet up if you want to take a look. We are working to plan a second phase of this event later in the year with some other meet ups sooner.Orlando Pizza Crawl Photo Album

Ahhh a pizza crawl sounds like MY kind of meet-up! Can I just say that my biggest takeaway here is that pizza crusts go well with honey?!

Great use of Google Photos - I love how you documented the story and included tips! Please keep sharing these meet-ups, @ErinK ! They are wonderful

@JeslynL , It’s a bit of a game changer when you try the crust with honey. You basically get dessert with your meal and who doesn’t like that?

Thanks for the comments.
