[RECAP] One Accessibility Webinar: Accessibility Champions Conversation

Hello beautiful people!

Over the weekend, we hosted the One Accessibility Webinar: Accessibility Champions Conversation where fellow local guides and myself shared stories surrounding our accessibility journey. This was in commemoration of the Local Guides 10th anniversary (which congratulations to an amazing initiative)!

The event was so wholesome, and I thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with familiar faces and connecting with new ones. The stories of what drives us towards a greater purpose are honestly so touching, and gives you a better perspective on why we go above and beyond.

During the call, I shared my observation on accessibility and the cause being shadowed in the broader conversation around diversity and inclusion. Accessibility is a foundational element of true inclusion. If people with disabilities cannot enter the building, use the website, access the information, or move freely in public spaces, then we are not truly inclusive… no matter how diverse our team or audience is.

So really, what is happening to accessibility? I think as we aspire towards a more inclusive world, there is a greater need to create more awareness and bring accessibility back to the forefront, which is why I love what we are doing with One Accessibility Initiative. Thank you @EmekaUlor for spearheading this!

Anyway, we had a wonderful call with fellow local guides, and it was so wonderful to see everybody who attended. Thank you @Jesi, @JaneBurunina, @EmekaUlor, @Globe_trotter_Ish, @SoniaK, @Julietezego, @PriscilaJimenez, @SarahKa, @Maximilianozalazar, @JakesD for joining!

@ChinonsoOnukwugha thank you for this awesome recap. Honestly, I was really glad to hear various perspectives from Local Guides about accessibility features and their journey towards learning about inclusion. Sonia’s story was an emotional one for me because I could relate. I appreciate all those who took out time to join us.

So glad that I joined this webinar and I’m looking forward to joining the webinars on the next weekends. I really appreciated hearing about your accessibility journeys and learning new ways to raise awareness in other types of disabilities, not just mobility restriction. See you next Saturday! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
