Yesterday, I hosted my very first meet-up in Quebec city! ![]()
Although I was only able to gather together a very small group of people, we still gad a lot of fun and had the chance to enjoy 2 original restaurants. The concept of my meet-up was to discover restaurants that mix both games and food, a tendency that seems more and more popular in Canada and in North America.
First stop: LvLOp Bar
This restaurant and bar location was the very first of its kind in North America then it opened over 3 years ago! The place is perfect if youāre into video games⦠but also if youāre not. Once you enter and order something to eat or drink, you have free access to all of their gaming options. They also host events for gamers and streamers.
We had the opportunity to talk with one of the owners who took us on a tour of the place. They have all kind of consoles, computers with almost any game you can think of, TVs shooting live streams, and more. He told us how the idea was born and how proud he is of seeing the positive outcome it has had on the gaming community.
We also talked about Google Maps and how the Local Guides program is helpful for future customers. He explained that even though they are currently not able to comply with every request (such as accessible bathrooms), they take the best care possible of every client that enters their restaurant. They really manage this place with a sense of family and community that is truly inspiring!
Second stop: La Revanche Pub
For all I know, La Revanche might have been the very first place in Quebec city to mix games with food. Known for having the biggest boardgame collection (they have over 1300!), this restaurant is all about fun. They have both a bar section and a kitchen section, allowing customers that are under the age of drinking (18 in Quebec) to also enjoy their facilities.
What makes the place very unique is that they have staff entirely dedicated to animation. Therefore, you may ask for a certain type of game with a certain number of players and they will take care of suggesting options from their collection. Once you settled on your game, they also help you set up the board and explain the instructions so you can avoid all the reading! Because of that service, they charge a flat fee per person, but you may stay in and play as long as you want.
We also had the chance to meet one of the staff members who showed us around and brought us some games to try. He explained the type of clients they receive and other services they offer, such as animation in external events (such as weddings!) We had a lovely time and we were able to enjoy the location even if we stayed for only a little time.
My overall experience
I will say: organizing a meet-up in Quebec city was hard. I tried to promote my event through Google Maps and social media, but I really didnāt have a lot of replies or interest. I still had so much fun and would enjoy participating in a meet-up again, but the effort I put in was very high in comparison to the result.
At the end of the day, Iām happy I have discovered new places and had the chance to take more time than I usually do in each location to really ask questions about the business and understand their vision and mission. I will for sure go back there and incorporate these habits to my next visits in any other location! It is for sure very helpful for reviewing and answering questions on Google Maps later on! ![]()
Now, time to write my reviews and post pictures on GMaps ![]()
