Dear LGs,

We organized “ Egmore Station Heritage Walk” on 5th May 2019 between 10.01 am and 11.30 am. Twelve Local guides from various part of Tamil Nadu participated in the meet up.

The Meetup was held coinciding with ‘The Great Indian Heritage Walk II’. The Egmore Railway Station is classified as Heritage Building which is built in Gothic Style of architecture with imposing domes and corridors and is one of the prominent landmark of Chennai. It was built in the year 1906 as the terminal of the South Indian Railway Company.

The station became the major meter gauge terminal for Chennai in 1951 and served as the gateway to Southern Tamil Nadu. In 1998, it was converted in to a broad gauge terminal. There are 11 platforms in the station and two are dedicated for suburban electric trains.

The station has a train care centre named Egmore Railway Yard where the trains arriving at the station are prepared for departure. There are Restaurants, Passenger Waiting halls, Escalators and Elevator services available in the Railway Station. The Trains run from early morning until mid night.

You can see here some of the photos taken in the meetup.

Hey @Saravanakanth ,

I’m happy to see your guys got together for the Egmore Station heritage walk.

Thank you for the stories and for the nice photos. By the way, some of your photos look a bit small and it’s better if you rotate them.

I’m going to relabel your post and move it the Meet-ups section. Feel free to share your recaps there
