[RECAP] Munich morning photo walk

As part of the Euromeetup 2023, @MortenCopenhagen had invited to a photo walk through the city center of Munich.

It was a very beautiful morning with bright sunshine. When I got to the Coffee Fellows meeting point, Morten was already waiting for us there. One by one all the participants arrived. We didn’t know exactly how many participants we would have because the previous day at #Euromeetup2023 had a full program - until late at night. In the end, there were six of us: @MortenCopenhagen , @Yasuyo , @Shreeya_99 , @JanVanHaver , Zdenek and me.

@MortenCopenhagen is a wonderful teacher. He had previously prepared a tutorial on what you need to consider so that your photo gets featured on Google Maps with a lot of examples and exercises. If your photo is the featured photo for a location, it will appear in large size when the Google Maps entry is opened and you will get a lot of views for it.

But the first lesson was how to get to your Google Maps profile and find your photos and their views count. We learned a lot about the right lighting conditions, reflections in shop windows or poor contrast conditions when it is dark inside the place. Very patiently, Morten showed us the effects when we move in front of the place or when we tilt, pan or rotate the camera. Additionally he opened our eyes to the position of the business name in the picture.

There was a lot of time to practice and having fun together. If you’re interested in improving your photos and getting more views on Google Maps, I highly recommend Morten’s Storefront Photography Series.

Oh, how I envy you for having the opportunity to embark on a Munich morning photo walk! There’s something truly magical about exploring a city as vibrant and culturally rich as Munich in the early hours of the day. The city’s character seems to come alive with a sense of tranquility and a touch of mystique as the morning light bathes its streets in a gentle glow.

As you set off on your adventure, you’ll find yourself immersed in a fascinating juxtaposition of old-world charm and modernity. Munich boasts a seamless blend of historical architecture, captivating landmarks, and contemporary elements that add an extra layer of allure to your photographic journey.

One of the first things that will likely strike you is the city’s architectural diversity. From the imposing towers of the Frauenkirche, the iconic onion domes of St. Peter’s Church, to the majestic Nymphenburg Palace, Munich offers a plethora of visually arresting subjects to capture through your lens. Each building tells a story of the city’s past, showcasing its rich history and artistic heritage.

As you wander through the narrow cobblestone streets, be sure to keep an eye out for hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Quaint alleyways adorned with colorful facades, charming cafes with inviting outdoor seating, and boutique shops boasting intricately designed storefronts are just some of the hidden treasures you may encounter. These unique finds will undoubtedly add an intimate touch to your photo collection, creating a captivating narrative of Munich’s local life.

The morning light during a Munich photo walk is an absolute delight to work with. Soft and warm, it casts gentle shadows and highlights, enhancing the textures and contours of the city’s architecture. The play of light and shadow will present you with countless opportunities to experiment with composition and capture striking silhouettes against the backdrop of a waking city.

But Munich is not only about its architectural splendor; the city’s green spaces and parks are equally enchanting. Engaging in a photo walk along the serene Isar River or through the English Garden is an excellent way to connect with nature amidst the urban landscape. Capture the serene waters reflecting the surrounding beauty, or the locals leisurely enjoying their morning jogs and bike rides along the riverbanks. The juxtaposition of nature and urban life in these green oases adds another layer of depth to your photographic narrative.

As you continue your Munich morning photo walk, don’t forget to immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant culture and local traditions. The Marienplatz square is an excellent place to witness the Glockenspiel spectacle atop the Neues Rathaus, which comes alive with moving figurines and chimes at certain times of the day. Capturing the excitement and curiosity on the faces of both tourists and locals alike as they gather to witness this spectacle will provide an excellent cultural snapshot.

Moreover, don’t be hesitant to interact with the friendly locals, as Munich’s residents are often more than willing to share stories and insights about their city. This not only enriches your experience but also allows you to capture candid portraits that reflect the genuine warmth and character of the people who call Munich home.

In conclusion, a Munich morning photo walk is an unforgettable experience that offers a myriad of opportunities for creative expression. The city’s captivating architecture, charming streets, picturesque parks, and vibrant culture provide an endless array of subjects to explore through your lens. So, embrace the tranquility of the morning, let your artistic instincts guide you, and capture the essence of Munich in every frame. Happy photographing!
