I had a wish earlier from my childhood to eat the famous street food of Mumbai by roaming across the roads (I mean by walk) at least once in my lifetime. To fulfil my wish and to meet amazing Mumbai local guides, I’ve hosted a food crawl meetup to serve both the purposes in a single shot. This food crawl was conducted near the prominent road called Mohammed Ali Road which is very famous for local eats. From Kebabs to tandoors, Chicken to Mutton, Pani Puri to Wada Pav, Lassi to Butter Milk, Fruits to Juices; we had everything. This was the best day of my life for my stomach. Thanks to @Shrut19, Rameez and Nihal.
On the day of the meetup, I was waiting near Muhammad Haji Saboo Siddique MusafirKhana, waiting for the Mumbaikars, suddenly Rameez from backside called Hey! Fazeel Usmani Fazeel Usmani… I was busy taking pictures of this place when he came in front of me and hugged me and said I love your photos. I was shocked I’ve never seen him before but it feels good you know when someone praises right in front of you.
After meeting and greeting we headed towards the Gulshan E Iran restaurant and we ordered Chicken curry, dal and roti. The taste was exquisite and the roti was real though it was a light meal.
Now, our local food journey starts with kebabs, chicken sticks, vada pav, fruits followed by a yummy strawberry dessert.
My journey with Rameez ends here and I walked out towards Gateway of India to meet Shruti and Nihaal. While I was playing with Taj Mahal Palace they met me.
Do you know the best time to visit these places?
I recommend visiting the 5’O clock in the evening so that you can see the sunset. And also you can click awesome pictures.
After taking lots of pictures we resumed our food crawl journey and moved towards “Khao Gali” (which means 'Eat Street’ in English). Here we see a giant puri like thing known as “Pehalwanpuri” (Pehalwan means ‘wrestler’) which is eaten by a sweet called “Halwa”, we tried but it is very difficult to eat that whole puri by one person.
After this, we had some desserts like cham-cham, gulab jamun, kalakand etc at Afzal sweets. Do you know we tasted desserts in free of cost; the owner hasn’t taken a single penny? He was saying that if you’re tasting then you can taste whatever you like but pay only if you’re taking away home. This rule is great, isn’t it?
Now comes kebabs, buns and platters. Mutton Sheekh Kebabs with chutney is an exquisite choice for a dinner, Chicken kebabs and fries were tasty, Shawarma bun was delicious.
By eating all these stuff my stomach increased 4 inches and one last item was left that was the famous Sweet Pan of Mumbai. Finally, by eating this pan the long-lasting, marvellous, awesome, yummy food crawl ended. It was the best day of my life with Mumbai local guides. Looking forward to meeting you very soon.
Thank you for guiding me and serving the best tastes of the world with pleasure.
This was my second meetup outside Hyderabad
