[Recap] Mombasa- Support Small Businesses & ♿Accessibility walk

Jambo Local guides, Karibu Sana to my next series of Accessibility :wheelchair: walk and supporting small businesses in MombasaGanjoni and Nyali.

Before anything else would want to wish you all Happy birthday as connect turned 5

I dedicated this poem to my second family Connect because by just a short period of joining this forum I have seen a big positive impact in my life in all aspects such Creativeness, Socially

And also mentally. And by that I am honored to say, Thank you Local Guides for the support whatsoever because it’s not just an ordinary thing to me being a part of you.

“Asante Sana na Mwenyezi Mungu Awabariki” ( Thank you so much And God bless you.)

So, early this month I had some work to take care of in Mombasa and said I will not leave Mombasa empty-handed as usual. As a local guide, I had to write a to-do list after my main business there and thanks once again to Sir @KashifMisidia Sir, for great advice and also to my sister @Ewaade_3A for the meetup she hosted aboutVoyage - The Travel around the world" because I also got some useful tips on my fingertips to accomplish my mission as a local guide.

So when I reached Mombasa and was done with the work I had which was to be in Ganjoni, I immediately noticed that the company I was, it was already on Google maps but no information about it and I added the info as soon as possible and also asked for the phone number to Add on Google maps and all was set.

To my surprise, the building I was at also was not :wheelchair: :x: Accessibility-friendly at the entrance and noticed most buildings have elevators and don’t have wheelchair entrance and to me was so much troubled and was thinking how this person with different disabilities has no chances of getting the services just because of this small act of Discrimination or Rather lack of Awareness.

Accessibility and Small Businesses Support in Mombasa :

I then left the company, reached the area where I had to start my Accessibility and Small Businesses Support, and had a small tour within the area. I was with a friend and I tried to brief on what I wanna do there. And I also encouraged him to join Google maps and start contributing as a local guide which he accepted and he is now a Google maps contributor.

While touring the place, this business location Around Moi university branch Mombasa is well known for transportation, used clothing and clearance and forwarding business which some are not big companies, I was surprised so many businesses were closed here due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. some of this business like Zenith companies limited, Al Husni enterprise, and many others, and to others working hours changed some working days changed because they have less or nothing to offer. And in some premises, you could find only security personnel because it was on a Saturday so they would not want to give information unless owners are available. This happened at the Moi University campus Where I was told I got to get an appointment.

One major lesson I learned in the Supporting Small business and Accessibility walk I have done is that despite people seeing information on Google maps, they don’t have enough knowledge of how important and beneficial it can be to them to have their Business updated on maps and also having my Google business app instead of this only public places by government, big Hotels and Malls are the only places to be Accessible and beneficial for All.

I then left for The Aga Khan Academywhere I was to start the meetup still in the company of this colleague of mine. Thanks to him, he is ambitious and ready to make contribute on maps and also join this beautiful forum. I was to meet another friend whom I also brief about my mission she was ready but then she didn’t show up her phone was off  . I didn’t lose hope and focus on my mission. And in my mind wondering why no local guide in my country is showing up in my meetups, and yet a number of them are on Connect Forum. So here I decided to visitMama Ngina drivebecause it is near Aga Khan Academy, and this park is in my Accessibility :wheelchair: friendly parks in Mombasa . And here at Mama Ngina Entrance there are also moving stores for Numerous clothings and shoes, Swahili Sandals and also cowrie shells for the visitors who are coming and would love to buy and__since they are not permanent I didn’t add them on maps but I supported them by buying,__

And this is how I finished my Accessibility :wheelchair: walk and supporting small businesses in Ganjoni. Here is thePhoto Album of Small Businesses & Accessibility walk Mombasa.

After this amazing Map Editing walk left for Nyali where my main reason was Accessibility :wheelchair: goal of showcasing our beach :parasol_on_ground: whereby I ended doing aClean the World Beach Cleaningpost here, you can check the above post because I felt I have the responsibility of spreading awareness. And because plan A didn’t go through as I thought, I got much motivated to do #cleantheworldcampaign . It was a great Experience and looking forward to more physical meet-up of supporting small business And Accessibility :wheelchair: Awareness because I Still feel the burden in me .

Thank you so much for reading through and welcoming your insights down on the comments.

Happy guiding  :star_struck:.

Congratulations @Zuhralc on conducting this amazing meetup that covered small business and accessibility together.

The photos and collages are impressive and you have covered all places diligently.

The small businesses and the goods they are selling look attractive and the accessibility features are in the place where needed.

It looks like perfect weather to go outdoors.

The video somehow looks smaller, but that could just be a browser issue.

Nevertheless, A great post :+1:
