Hello Local Guides, My Friends!
Last Friday we organized an important Map Editing Meet-Up in Dhaka. The coverage area of the Meet-Up was Mirpur 10 - Mirpur 14 roadside. One of the crowded area and much important business institute presents there. The target of the Meet-Up was to make a spam-free Maps and spreading awareness of quality Guiding among the Local Guides. As a passionate Local Guide, we have so many responsibilities for Maps.

Myself with another 10 amazing Local Guides started this Map editing Photo Walk from the Shah Ali Market. Before we started our map editing walk had several spams and missing places there.
This Meet-Up was a multifunctional Meet-up and had an excitement among us for mapping for the Google Maps. Together we added new places, edited many places, answered many questions, fact-checked and added lots of photos during the walk.
Letâs have a look at our contribution by its category and features.
- Adding New places:
Dhaka is a developing city where new business opening and old business closing is a normal and daily phenomenon. That is why it needs to continue our daily mapping for the add or marking close. In this walk adding a new place was an important rule. We hade several approved edits for adding new places like Bank, ATM, Restaurant, brand shop and more.
- Edits:
Due to facing a busy area, we had many edits for the walk. Successfully we had many edits especially by uncover missing information and others. We faced some duplicate places, permanently closed, spam, missing information places. I tried to collect info and checking deeply before making any edits.

- Check the Facts :
We had an important rule for fact-checking. We coverage w busy and heavy area that is why our walk was a slow one. Our walking speed was so slow for that reason but we tried our best to touch all the places on our way. It is a very sensitive feature that is why we checked deeply then pressed Yes or NO.
- Adding Photos:
One of the common and important parts of a Local Guides Meet-Up is taking lots of photographs. We took many group photos, selfies and business photography for Google Maps. Fellow Local Guides are very passionate about Google maps photography. It is a very important contribution of a Local Guide.
- Map Accessibility:
As I mentioned it a multi-feature Meet-Up, so we had a variety on our Meet-up. another feature of our Meet-up was checking Accessibility information. Where we found Wheelchair accessible ramps, we added accessible signage there. Its a just fir making other aware of accessibility for the disabled community and for the users who depend on the Maps accessibility feature.
- Snacks, discussion time and more
Then we had snack time at a popular Local snacks bar in Mirpur 10 area. after snack time, we had a long discussion about our community working and Local Guideâs responsibility. Then we also discussed the Application process of the Connect Live 2020. How to be prepare, How to write a post, How to make a video, How to make a list for the application submission. We shared our last yearâs application preparation for the new Local Guides. After discussion and experience sharing we ended our Photo Walk.

Local Guides Meet-Up is a very interesting thing. Itâs about mapping, guiding, helping and friendship with a lot of fun. A local guide who joined a local Guides Meet-Up knows many things and can easily explain the matter of what to do, what is Guiding for the community. So everybody should join Local Guides Meet-Ups to know unknown about Local Guides and quality Google Maps contributions.
