A bright hello to all of my fellow local guides,
Map-editing walk has always invoked a sense of creativity in me, along with my passion to volunteer because in these walks, we can add new places on Google maps, which can be surely useful for hundreds of visitors, to find the location.
On my Birthday, I decided to spend this day a little different than previous birthdays but same as my last birthday,as I hosted a fantastic "let’s help thousands in Karachi’’ walk
It was an exhilirating experience, because as in every next meetup, we always interact and meet new people.
Fortunately, same rendition took place at this time of the year again in in Map Editing Walk Karachi again.
A huge shoutout to @sheeraz and Zubair , who came, just for the sake of attending this meetup, from Hyderabad Sindh which is almost 150 kilometres far from meetup location that took place in Karachi
As usual i reached disco bakery before time, and on the same time @Bilal_shaikh also reached there. Who is very passionate and enthusiastic local guide from Pakistan and he attend meetups to learn more by other people. And@ChaiPaniEtc ( Kashif Ahmed), was the first person to attend any Local Guide meetup for the first time. And Big thanks to @Muhammad_Usman , who joined us virtually by video call.
After some time, we were also joined by @sheeraz and Zubair Channa who gave a little introduction about themselves and then we braced ourselves for the walk adventure, by firstly agreeing the direction of the walk.
A route was to be from Disco Bakery till Maskan Chowrangi. But let me share something first about this market. Gulshan E Iqbal Disco bakery is very busy market and has everything available in just four kilometres of the area. Mostly you can find here restaurants and Electronic shops.
Thus, the need to add some new places and edit their information, was strong.
There one more thing we did before starting walk. I explained them what is the main purpose of this walk? And how we will add Accessibility information on Google maps to guide thousands of people in Karachi.
Walking from disco Bakery to Samsung Display center, we found many places, specially the famous Dessert shop and A pizza shop.
So we edit these spam places together, and we got instant notifications for some edit’s approval. That’s the best thing we did to explain new people in our walk.
And we saw, there are many places, restaurants and they hadn’t Wheel Chair Accessible entrance or any ramp there. To invoke a sense of responsiblity in restaurant manager, I had to in a civil manner, that “what would he do, if a disabled person had to dine in their restaurants.” ?
As expected, they didnt any answer. However, we had to play our role by teaching them the importance of Wheel chair Accessibility, and many of them agreed to this, and promised that they will talk to business owner and guaranteed us the accessiblilty for the disabled, the next time we visited.
As every walk ended, at the end of the day, I felt success briming from my insides and my insides exploding from the happiness.
Meetup ended with the scrumptious dinner, and a treat from my side for the friends who came from Far away to learn and meet new people.
Here you can check some memories of that day from our MeetUp Album
