Happy New Year 2023!
I am writing about my last Meet-up of 2022 called ‘‘Map accessibility 2022’’. Map Accessibility is an accessibility mapping campaign initiative by Local Guides in Bangladesh. Every year we had several meet-ups, especially for accessibility mapping, marking and creating awareness about the equal rights of disabled communities in Bangladesh.
30 December, we called the meet-up and joined 6 Local Guides in Dhaka. It was a winter morning in Dhaka and a completely cold weather day. The starting point was Simanto Squire at Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
We started our day by checking the accessibility facilities of Shimanto Square shopping mall. It was a big area shopping mall with multi-facilitated zones. It had a big and nice wheelchair accessible ramp there for accessing the wheelchair smoothly.
Then we moved forward to the Jigatola and Sat Mosjid road. We were checking accessibility and collecting data for updating information of the places we had visited. We checked specially accessible ramp, parking, lift, kids zone, hours, contact number of a business etc. We also updated business information we collected during the meet-up.
It was a great time checking places with fellow Local Guides during a Meet-Up. Business authorities were kind enough to cooperate with us with their information. Everyone was so delighted mapping together during the meet-up.
We found an accessible ramp, parking and lift and added these information on maps. It was a practical mapping and an interesting way for our new Local Guides who joined that day. Every Local Guides Meet-Ups are the bridge of knowledge sharing and making new friends.
Meet-Up Special:
- Marking Accessible places with a special sticker of our campaign. We talked to the building and business authorities before marking them with an accessible sticker. We also appreciated them for making their area accessible for all.
- Inspiring authorities making their entrance accessible for all like wheelchair users. We talked about the right of disable community, equal rights and their inclusiveness. They were very positive and committed to move forward this message to the higher authorities.
Finally we had an amazing day with fellow Local Guides for guiding and mapping together. We collected many photos, selfies and memories for our future inspiration.

Map Accessibility 2022, Rajshahi!
I am so excited for this session about Rajshahi Local Guides and their joining with a big group for mapping Accessibility. They are so interested in joining Map accessibility campaign from Rajshahi. Then we made the plane joining together for mapping accessibility from the different cities in Bangladesh.
Local Guides in Rajshahi are very active right now and their effort for the mapping is increasing day by day. So we are so proud for joining Map Accessibility 2022 widely with all the amazing Local Guides.
