It’s the time of the year again. Diwali, or Deepavali which is the Hindu festival of lights. It’s a time where people celebrate the victory of light over darkness, good over evil. It’s a time where the rest of us get to visit our friends and eat lots of sweets and snacks. Whichever way we think about it, Deepavali is always full of happiness. It is also one of the very important and popular celebrations in Malaysia, celebrated by most of the local 10% Malaysian Indian ethnic community.

This year, Malaysia Local Guides met up again on the eve of Deepavali for a photowalk and friendship session on the 26th October 2019 here in Brickfields Little India.

We had a pretty good group (from left to right). Dr Collins, Chee Weng, Pavel Sarwar, Nabeel Tirmazi, Farhan, Saidul Karim and myself Steve. It was a good group considering it had been raining almost the full day, and continued to rain throughout our meet up.

When everyone had arrived, we started exploring all the shops and make-shift stalls in Brickfields, and each year when we come back, there are always new exciting shops to visit. We walk through the rain, and were happy to see local clothing sttores, stalls selling foodstuff, sweets, decorations, vegetables, meat and more.

We were hoping for the rain to relent. But after walking for almost 1 hour, the rain did not stop. And didn’t stop until a few hours alter. So a few of us just sat in one of the restaurants and order drinks and some light food. That helped us to perk up again.

Towards the early night, the rain had relented a bit. We managed to get more group photos together and felt more freely to walk.

As we were walking for quite some time, the rain didn’t relent. So, by 2 hours later, we had already called it an evening. It was most certainly nice to meet everyone again.
