Today, with over 4 million inhabitants, its hard to believe that the city of Los Angeles came to fruition with just 44 settlers or “pobladores” in 1781. This meet-up was about revealing historical information on the birth of Los Angeles. Our docent-guided tour was led by Josie Garza, an Angelita del Pueblo who’s appirsal of was so enjoyable to hear.
Our tour started at Pio Pico House, the first hotel in Los Angeles.
The church (pictured below) is the only building in the area whose original purpose has not changed. This church was also the first church build in Los Angeles.
Felipe de Neve is credited with selecting the location of Los Angeles (after the third attempt). He had prosed two other sites closer to the LA River, but after flooding, prosed the current location.
The placard below memorializes the original 44 settlers and founding of Los Angeles on September 4, 1781.
Our last stop was at the Avila Adobe, the older house in Los Angeles
My appreciation to Local Guides: Roberto, Ron, and Edgar for joining me on this my first meet-up!
