Hello Family,
Belated Eid Mubarak to everyone in the Local Guides community!
To all the members of the Local Guides community, we hope you had a wonderful Eid UL Fitr celebration with your loved ones! Although it has passed, the spirit of giving and sharing remains alive in the community. In the last week of Ramadan, a meetup was organized to distribute groceries and food to those in need at the Muslim Bangalore Community Center in Baldia Town on April 18th, 2023.
The objective behind this activity was to support those who are less fortunate and could not afford groceries, especially during Eid. As Local Guides, we aimed to make their lives a bit easier by providing them with essential food items for a month, enabling them to celebrate Eid without worrying about the expenses of their kitchens.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to @KashifMisidia Bhai, who came all the way to help with the distribution of groceries and worked tirelessly to assist those in need. @Qasimabbas who also a Member of Local Guide Community were also available. On the planned date, we went to the wholesale marketJodia Bazar and purchased all the essential food items in bulk, with a ratio for 50 people and one bag each. We made 50 bags, each with the same ratio of food items, to distribute among the people.
Every bag contained 3KG Daal (Channa, Maash, and Masoor), 10KG wheat flour, 3KG rice, 2 pouches of oil, a bottle of Rooh Afza, and some other small items. The bags were loaded onto motorcycles and delivered to the people on the list. Baldia Town is a neighborhood area of Sindh Industrial Trading State aka SITE Karachi, the largest industrial zone of Karachi. Nearby is a slum where people work as laborers in factories and industries. We aimed to add all essential food ingredients in each bag, useful for those families, and ensured that the food items would be enough for at least 20 days.
However, due to the limited funds generated by ourselves, we could only assist 50 families.
In the evening, we had another activity where we distributed food in a big plate called Thaal, for each circle of five people. We served Chicken Pulao as the main course, with potato samosas, Pakoras, Jalebi, three kinds of fruit, Traditional Suji ka Halwa (Semolina porridge) and chilled Pakola Dodh Sharbat drink for everyone who came there for Iftar.
One of the highlights of the activity was the virtual presence of our dear friend from Bangalore, India, Mr. @TravellerG was delighted to see all the arrangements and motivated us further with his encouraging words. The purpose of these activities was not only to help others in the surrounding areas but also to inspire people to do something within our capacity.
These may seem like small efforts to us, but they can be life-changing for those who are suffering from the current economic situation and high inflation in the country. We express our heartfelt gratitude to Local Guides Connect Platform for providing a platform where great friends from all over the world, especially from Karachi like Kashif Bhai, have always been there to support us. Let’s continue to work towards making the world a better place, one small act of kindness at a time.
