I feel so happy to write the recap of this meet-up. In this meet-up , many local guides across continents came forward to learn , share and know more about how we can use the amazing Google Maps feature to support Local business be it a big or small ! It was amazing to see their desire to help others, their child-like curiosity , their eagerness and willingness to contribute and their selflessness to help flourish the local business in their area.
I saw a glitter in the eyes of many when they saw this slide, all ready to go and help out !
The meet-up started with introduction of all the attendees followed by basics like ‘What is a local business?’, ‘How to identify a local business near you?’
We then proceeded to knowing different ways to support new local business , which was followed by multiple ways to support existing local business using Google Maps. I have created a detailed post along with video so that those who missed this meet-up can also benefit from it.
When the topic about Creating list for local business came up during the meet-up , I recalled the amazing video of @PriyankaU who put women-owned business on Maps ! Thanks for inspiring us !
After this, our first guest speaker @TheRealKristin , who also owns a successful local business ‘Bubble Boba Tea shop’ in Coventry, UK , shared her experience about how she is actively helping other fellow business owners in her area by putting their correct info on Maps and explaining them about ‘Google My Business’ app. She also mentioned that currently her shop successfully run from past 5 years ) was closed due to COVID but she looks forward to re-opening the same on 4th July 2020.
One of the best idea was given by @KashifMisidia . He suggested all to take ‘Solo walk meet-ups’ to help local business in one’s local area as taking a meet-up with many is not advisable these days due to COVID.
@SJasourH98 had a very interesting question : ‘How to help when basic details like timings, name, phone #, etc are correctly reflecting in Maps for all local business around you?’. I was amazed to see the eagerness to help and suggested him that he can use the ‘Describe this place’ , update accessibility details and use the latest ‘Help a local restaurant’ feature in Maps to contribute more. I was glad he found it helpful.
@RosyKohli also shared with us her inspiring story about how she helps local business in her area.
@Durojaiyeolaunde1 also shared and asked many questions about how he could help local business to grow in Nigeria. It was amazing to see his eagerness to help people and build stronger community !
Special thanks to @Anil6969 for sharing amazing inputs and suggestions on how we can help the local business grow and for getting inspired and doing a solo walk and sharing his pictures with us.
Thanks to @JMD9 for continuing the momentum, doing a solo walk to support the local business and sharing his pictures with us ! @Shrut19 Thanks a lot for attending and sharing amazing pictures of the meet-up !

As I said in the meet-up , consider this as an ongoing project and lets all pledge to put in our best efforts regularly to support a local business be it big or small, build a stronger community and continue helping others as that’s what we Local Guides do ! Right?
