A sustainable world is a world that does not waste resources but instead conserves them, reuses them, using as little as possible.
- @ErmesT Tuon-
Hello, Local Guides,
Last month we all celebrated Earth Day. I’m a very small Contributor to this forum, but always try to learn from you all. And I still remember the post by my mentor Ermes Tuon Every day is Earth Day - Introduce your Green Local Guide attitude
And realized, yes every day is Earth day because we are getting food from our mother nature daily, we are breathing in the fresh air every second of our lives, we cannot live without water which we are getting continuously from our mother Earth.
Earth day is like Mother’s day for me, just like we cannot pay off what our parents did for us, even if we spend all our lives for them, but still, we cannot pay them back. So every day is Mother’s day for us, and the same like Every day is Earth Day for us.
So last month, we decided to do some little efforts for our mother nature, and this time we have our wonderful and old friend from Malaysia in Karachi, @Saqis9966 , we came to know that he is Karachi, so we don’t want to miss the chance to meet him and do some Activity with him. And my meet-up partner @user_not_found
was with me and one more friend Adeel Awan also joined us for this great initiative
We started our journey from Hussainabad Food Street, which is easy to reach for everyone, and after a drive of an hour, we reached our destination which was French Beach Karachi.
French Beach is a beautiful place with lots of tourist attractions and is part of the coastline that stretches from Keti Bandar to Gawadar.
So we reached there at 10:00 am, and there weren’t many people on the beach at that time, so made some fun with the waves, and camel riding as well (I did it after almost 30 years ?)
After all these activities we started our real work That’s why we came here. It was 11:00 am and people had started coming here, that’s what we wanted.
We brought trash bags with us, We started filling them with garbage and plastic waste. We all were wondering how anyone can throw their waste at the beach even if they claim this is our city, our own home?
And still, we have a lot more questions, who throws it in the sea? Surely it was thrown by a human-like you and me. But why do we still not understand the sensitivity of every time what we are throwing in the sea, it’s returned to us in the form of the food us.
And how much risk to our Marine life and us also, if we can understand, then we never throw any wastage on our beaches.
We found many things Which shouldn’t be there, like Syringes, medical waste, along with Wrappers, Plastic bottles, plastic plates, toys, plastic bags (which we found every time during beach cleaning drive) but the fact that the medical waste there was a sign of danger, we highlighted this issue by our social media handles too and tagged some environmental activists.
People there were watching us because usually, people come there for picnics and outings, Very few people come this way who clean the beach. Some people came to us and made photos and videos by their mobile cameras (we are so hopeful that they will share it with their social media handles too) and that’s what we want.
We were just four people and we can’t clean the whole beach, but we could create awareness against waste on beaches and sea. How much we benefit from the sea, it feeds us, the sea is no less than a blessing to any country, So, how can anyone ruin this blessing by throwing waste and garbage there?
At the end of this beach Cleaning drive by Local Guides, we had five bags full of waste and garbage, On the way, we saw a huge rubbish bin which was not far from us
So we put all this garbage in the same box on the way back. Which was the right place for this waste, not how it would be there on the beach and in the sea.
After cleaning we felt one very notable thing in us, that it was something which was coming from our inside, it was kind of satisfying or what? Maybe it was happiness or joy that we did a small effort from our side for our planet, and this was our first time, but after this meetup, we all agreed to continue this journey of the Clean The World program in the future.
Thank you Local Guides Connect, all Local Guides and especially My mentors, who are doing a great job of moving stones. Thank you Ermes Tuon.
