{Recap} Let's Clean Kund Beach - Clean The World (A Local Guides Project)

“The idea that we can “maintain the status quo” in a “more environmentally friendly” way is a contradiction in terms, which will not lead us anywhere. Of course, thinking about “green” is important, doing our part is important, because it increases awareness, but “getting the right conscience” will not get us anywhere unless we start thinking that our life will have to change radically. Our life will change anyway, whether we like it or not.”

Hello, Local Guides,

I have been active on Connect for almost four years, and in this whole journey, the first thing which inspired me was the Clean the World Project. Which was started by Ermes Tuon from Italy. This project is purely for us, for our next generations.

And As a part of Clean The World: A Local Guides Project, Every team member wants to have significant efforts for our beautiful world; to protect our next generations from the damages of pollution. One such example is marine pollution.

So from 2019, I decided to do some meaningful work on every Birthday as the first time on 15th January 2019, we did an impactful Accessibility walk at an Electronic Market of Gulshan E Iqbal Karachi, and next year on the same day 15th of January 2020, we had another Accessibility & Map Editing walk near Disco Bakery Karachi it was a food street.

So this year I want to do something more impactful activity, not just to protect our beautiful planet’s environment but to create awareness for this massive issue.

Journey For A Cause :

So we decided to gather on Sunday morning at Hussainabad food street because, on my birthday, it would be Friday and a working day for all of us.

So We started our journey towards the next province Balochistan which is the largest province of Pakistan by its area and covered with beautiful mountains & beaches.

Our destination was an unknown Beach, which was not added on Google maps, but we were following the pin location provided by some fishermen.

Here I like to say Big Thanks from my deepest heart to my fellow Local Guides and my close friends @SwalayMuhammad , @Bilal_shaikh , and @GulabParmar , who responded to me so positively and were excited about their first beach cleaning meet

First We had breakfast at Mehmand Restaurant with Channa Paratha because we have to travel so long.

And again we started the drive towards Balochistan. It was around 60 Kilometers and the drive of two hours from the point of gathering. As expected, some roads were not in a good condition, and the last rain caused so much damage to them.

But reaching the destination, we forgot every hurdle which we faced during our journey. It was one of the be wonderful beaches which we experienced in Pakistan.

But it vanished when we walked on the beach sand.

On the sand, we found a lot of plastic bags, plastic bottles, plastic wrappers and other waste, which shouldn’t be there and which surely came by waves from the sea.

Because this place is not so much famous till now, and still safe from garbage which would be thrown by people.

During our journey, we were talking that maybe this place would be clean, and maybe we don’t have to do anything there regarding the Beach Cleaning Campaign because this beach is not so crowded as others.

But what we found, it came from Sea, by waves, and surely it already gave massive damage to marine life during the journey from throwing waste in the sea and then came back to the beach.

We started our Clean the beach walk and tried to pick every plastic around the 2 kilometers area. And after some hours, our 4 bags were full of Plastic waste.

I m sure, you would Love to see some visuals of our Beach Cleaning Walk in this ? Video

Our Observation :

We were there till 2 pm, and in the evening, we tried to summarize our whole day activity.

  • Actually, people care about our Air, Beaches, rivers, mountains, environment, marine life, and other resources of life, but sometimes someone has to take the first step to start any initiative. Like if you are on vacation, enjoying a picnic at the beach, thereby mistake a plastic bottle or any wastage you forgot to put in the dustbin, and there somebody picks and puts that waste into the dustbin, without saying any word. Then maybe you will always care about it by yourself in the future. With just simple actions, a smile, and a positive act, you can achieve your goal to teach other people.

  • We all care about the environment, but something is missing, especially in Pakistan, that people here are still neglecting the big danger which probably we have to face not very far but within 10 to 15 years if we will not care about our environment.

  • In our world many thousands or millions of people care about the environment, these numbers are just 1% of the overall population of the world. But as we are living here, using facilities of free air, free rain, food from oceans & land. Then we should care about these resources of life too. And not just millions of total population, but every person has to take their responsibility to save and remain clean of our planet.

We saw happiness in the eyes of the local residents around this beach, they were watching and observing us from the start of the Beach Cleaning walk, they were appreciating us as local guides and team members of the Clean The World Project. So we think it was the best way to convey the messages of Local Guides, as we were representing the whole community of local guides at Floating Fishermen Jetty ( Kund Beach).

Happy birthday, @KashifMisidia . How to start my reply if not in this way.

Thanks to all the Local Guides who joined you in cleaning the beach. What you did is extremely important, and I hope one day we will be able to clean a piece of world together

Thanks also for the quote, that is part of an article I wrote times ago.

The meaning is that we need to act, like you are doing, and not just think that “something will have to change”. We need to be the actors of the change, like you guys are.

What a beautiful way to celebrate your birthday.

A big hug

Ermes
