Having planned to do this for a long time coming, we successfully completed the mission to sensitize road users on safety and speed controls especially within an educational setting by installing street signs to discourage overspeeding and lower accident rates often involving students. This project was completed in the University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria. This meetup was a continuation of the first Safety Tour in Lagos I organized in December 2018.
Look who made it to the meetup!!@emmandus traveled a distance of about 20km to participate in the project, a very laudable gesture indeed. @Taofik is also a road safety champion and was enthusiastic to join in the meetup. @Chydeemma with the smile was eager to see the project completed. @AbdulHafis was very instrumental in ensuring the permits and necessary documentations were secured. @geektutor and his colleague joined in the event to lend their support and were absolutely wonderful folks.
Two of the pedestrian crossing signs were installed at locations adjacent to the University’s Basic School as well as the High School to encourage regular stops at those points and ease road crossing for pupils and high school students alike, while the speed limit signs were mounted at strategic locations where road signs are either lacking or insufficient.
Whilst we took pride in accomplishing this project, we were encouraged and applauded by the University’s Alumni Association for such gesture. As Local Guides, we help to make the society more accessible through our contributions to the Google Maps and safety is a top priority in accessibility, especially the reason for this meetup. We look forward to hosting more similar meetups in the future to create value and improve on the conditions in our immediate society.
Good job, @Mayford ! A lot of drivers on the UNILAG campus drive way too fast to help provide a safe learning environment. I hope the signage you installed goes a long way to sensitize those drivers and ensure that there are no auto accidents on campus.

Thank you for hosting this meet-up! It’s so kind and generous of you to put street signs in the most dangerous zones. I hope this initiative will result in reducing the number of accidents. Unfortunately nowadays a lot of drivers are in a hurry and they just don’t think about the other people on the road, but these signs can definitely create more alertness.

Haha @TorM , yeah I guess it’s the same everywhere lol. We had to painstakingly get a permit and approval from the authorities before embarking on the project. Otherwise, I’d have considered it null and void haha. Thanks for the kind words.
