It was a beautiful Saturday morning, weather so bright and the Lagos Maps Hackathon meet-up was ready to kick off by 10 am. Getting to the meet-up venue as early as 1 hour in advance to make sure all things are in place for our meetup. Exactly 9:30 am, Local Guides started showing their beautiful faces and the days event kicked off.
We started off by introducing ourselves, our Local Guides levels and why we contribute to Google maps. After that, we proceeded to the agenda for the day. Kick-starting our discussion we looked deeply into what you can add to Google maps and what you can’t add. We spent quality time discussing, sharing, and analysing things that should be on the map and it was really worth it as some local guides shared their views and also got to be familiar with things that shouldn’t be added to the maps.
After that, we had a hands-on session looking at how to send feedback and report a bug on Google Maps. Using my product testing experience, I was able to share how to do so with local guides as we looked at how to share quality feedback and also bug reports. From using a good title, summary, issue type, actual results, expected results and attaching screenshots, local guides in attendance learnt some new and interesting things about Google Maps. In attendance were some Crowdsource Influencers so we also used the opportunity to discuss with local guides about Google Crowdsource.
After some hours together, the meet-up finally came to an end and we signed off to enjoy some chops and drinks and signed out with a group photo. You can some photos from the event here:
A big thank you to all the local guides who came out to attend this awesome meet-up. I look forward to hosting another maps hackathon meet-up in another city or country sometimes soon!
