[Recap] KWAHU LG: EASTER PHOTOWALK

The Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival which is an annual celebration championed by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the chiefs and people of Okwahuman brings together family and friends from the diaspora as well as indigenes of Okwahuman to have fun and experience the rich cultural and tourism sites within the Kwahu enclave.

This year’s festival was dubbed Heritage Fun and Fly. Thirteen pilots from the United States of America, Japan, Romania, South Africa, Japan and two from Ghana participated in this year’s paragliding festival.

The pilots flew passengers from the Odwenanoma Mountains to the landing site at Nkawkaw at a height of more than 2,000 feet above sea level during the festival.

I had earlier shared my published meet-up on various social media platforms in an effort to get Local Guides to attend the photo walk but only to realise most people are not really interested. However, through education, I got two friends (Esther and Edith @Edidalyn who sign up to be local guides and were ready to attend the event with me.

We started our photo walk from the paragliding take-off point at the Odweanoma Mountain and later continued at Nkawkaw the Landing site.

Though there are several other activities apart from the paragliding, we could not attend and cover most of them due to heavy traffic on the ridge. However, we updated some missing information on the map and visited some few other places the following days. One of such places was AIR JAYS. Air jays consist of a short mountain climbing experience, a canopy walk and a zip line. The canopy walkway (though short) gives you a lovely view of the kwahu ridge and the affram plains.

This year’s Kwahu Easter celebration also witnessed a number of musical shows organised to entertain both Kwahu citizens and visitors who travelled from various parts of the world to Kwahu to celebrate this year’s Easter.

On Friday night, April 19, Accra-based Adom FM hosted a musical jam and a pork show dubbed ‘Effiada Mbosuo’ at Star Boat Pub at Nkawkaw to entertain patrons.

Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy on the same night headlined a street jam at Obomeng to entertain all his fans.

On Easter Saturday, the Eastern Palace Bar at Atibie came alive with a highlife musical concert dubbed ‘Highlife Jam’, which featured highlife artiste Nana Osei Ampofo Adjei and the Masters Band.

Adom FM also hosted a street musical jam on same day at the Presbyterian Park (Adom Park) at Obomeng, which attracted thousands of music fans from Mpraeso, Atibie and Obo.

At Nkwatia Kwahu, Abrantie Amakye Dede and Sarkodie staged a musical concert dubbed ‘Take Over’ at the Rock City Night Club on Saturday.

Highlife music maestro Kojo Antwi also performed at the Nyarkoaba Nyarko Royal Hotel at Obo and Rock City Night Club on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The good thing about this year’s program was the heavy security that was provided as the Ghana Police Service has deployed drones at the Kwahu Easter Festival as part of security measures to protect revellers.

Being my first ever meet-up, I considered it a good start and plan to organize more and get more LGs involved.

These are the links to our photos during the period and a list of some of the best places to visit and have fun.

Thank you @RadieN and @TravellerG for your encouragement.
