{Recap} Knowledge Sharing Meet-up for Social Media Influencers in Karachi - (13th Session)

Hello, Local Guides,

Local Guides from Karachi were invited to a meet-up organized by the Sindh Tourism & Cultural Department, to get suggestions from social media influencers on how we can promote Tourism in Pakistan, especially in Sindh through Digital media.

I was so honored that I was one of them who were invited to be there because of their presence on social media, especially by my volunteering for Google Maps & Local Guides Connect.

So, I received a call about this invitation and rapidly I send this invitation to my Local Guides from Karachi, And two of them accepted the invitation and said “Let’s do it” :star_struck: these were Bilal & Swalay, my teammate from Local Guides team in Pakistan who never say NO for any adventure with me.

On the meeting day, We reached 15 minutes before the meeting time and talked about what we had to say there. And when I saw the :wheelchair: wheelchair Accessible Ramp there, I couldn’t stop myself from taking a picture of it for the Google maps profile ofLiaquat Memorial Library.

When we saw our other friends who are also Connect Community members & Google maps contributors, @Ali_Ahmad_Jaan & @mariazaib , they welcomed us with such a warm gesture

The officials there brought us to the meeting hall, where they had great arrangements for us. Mr. Aleem Lashari who called us for this meet-up started with the history of Sindh. As I shared many times in my previous posts that Sindh is the land of the Indus Civilization which is much older than 5000 years. He shared more new information about the places which we never heard of or known before. For example, Sonda Graveyard, Karoonjhar Mountains & waterfall, Baqar lake, and many more, these amazing places can be like gems for domestic & international tourists, but still many places are hidden from the world.

That was the reason, that’s why the Sindh Cultural & Tourism department wanted to highlight these places on all social media by the invited influencers. He also assured us that we will provide all possible facilities for the tourism of Sindh ( Which we availed many times after this meeting, thanks to the Sindh Cultural Department)

In our turn, I began with the introduction of the Google Maps Contributions & Local Guides Connect forum. And I agreed with Mr. DG that what you were saying just now was absolutely correct, in fact, This is what we are doing already with Google Maps & Local Guides Connect. I shared my screen with them and let them see my articles on Connect about tourism in Pakistan. This thing was completely new to many people there. It was a great surprise for them that our Contributions on Google Maps & Writing articles on Connect, all things become public by Google search also. And along with the Connect members, anyone can read your article regarding any specific tourist attraction.

__* @Bilal_shaikh *__Shared that not only Tourist Attractions, but because of Google maps we can boost small businesses by adding them on Google maps, and these businesses can get many facilities by Google maps such as uploading their product photos, getting a free webpage and setting their open/close timing by their own.

__* @Swalay *__as usual briefed us regarding 360 photography & Streetview, that by street view photos, anyone can see the real 3d view of the place which he/she is searching for their visit, even the tourists from abroad.

Further, there were more amazing people sharing their work, like Facebook & Instagram influencers, YouTubers, & people who are related to other social media apps. I was so happy to meet them because I learned some new things from that session.

After the wonderful session, DG Culture took us for a tour of Liaquat Memorial Library, which is so huge. And the very first time I came to know that there are thousands of books, which cover all the important topics of advanced education. There we also took some photos for our Google maps profiles.

Before the end, Which was to end with a hi-tea, Mr. Aleem Lashari, Not only that, he gifted us Ajrak. Rather, he put this Ajrak Shawl on our shoulders with his hands. Which was a great honor for us, Because according to the tradition of Sindh, Ajrak is a traditional gift. And this gift is definitely given to all our special guests in Sindh.

I’m so fortunate that here are some people who value this thought, that we can really promote tourism through Google Maps & Local Guides Connect. So sometimes it makes things so easy for me to spread my message to others.

Thank you so much Megan @Kwiksatik for your valuable words.

@KashifMisidia Bhai, the meetup looks Shaandaar, especially your photo being felicitated with the Ajrak shawl.

But I repeatedly fail to understand why a place like Sindh needs any tourism promotion. Just let people in - there are amazing places in every nook and corner.

I would easily spend a week moving around in Karachi alone.

Nevertheless, your efforts at participating in the promotion event and being recognized as one of the top influencers is both amazing and inspiring at the same time.

Keep shining, Bhai…

Wow… Another interesting RECAP!

Congratulations.

Our gratitude to Mr. Aleem Lashari & the Social Media Influencers for making this meetup very grand.

We too have the tradition of gifting “Ponnada” (Shawll) the very similar way as Ajrak - its really a wonderful RESPECT!

Liaquat Memorial Library also looks interesting.

The whole crowd gives us an impression of a grand meetup.

Once again, appreciate & congratulate.

Wish you many more such acknowledgement of your dedication.

Best regards

You are so right @TusharSuradkar , if we are considering historical places of Sindh, so there is no other place like it. But unfortunately, still, we have less tourism for these historical places, domestic & especially from other parts of the world. Maybe because the government is still not able to provide a great infrastructure to facilitate tourists here, or still some kind of fear as you know it very well. But the situation here is going better gradually, if I will talk specifically about the tourism department of Sindh provincial government, they are doing their best.

“I would easily spend a week moving around in Karachi alone.”

Yes you can, and whenever you will be in Pakistan inshaAllah, I will host you, and will let you visit all the famous places of my province.

I hope, it will happen soon inshaAllah.

When the Pujari jee gifted us Chunri on our shoulders.
