This meetup is organised under the theme “Host a Meet-Up to Support Mobility for All”, an initiative by @TraciC in September to help millions around the world with mobility needs.
I picked the Vajira from Kalutara North, and we went together to the Kalutara General Hospital.
This meetup was attended by three local guides(Anuradha, Vajira and Chandana) and it was started on time.
The Kalutara General Hospital is a large hospital, and we decided to cover only a few places in the premises as it spreads over 25 acres. We especially look at the accessibility to the Out Patient Department(OPD) and the Main Clinical Complex and Coronary Care Unit in the hospital.
The accessibility of these two places was satisfactory, and there are lots of ways to improve it.
The Regional Chest Clinic has wheelchair accessible entrance but it can be improved.
We noticed there are wheelchair accessibility issues at hospital canteen, coroner’s court, mortuary, blood bank and few other places.
There are few other locations with good wheelchair accessibility.
We have to go there again to check the other places, and it will help a lot to prepare before they come to the hospital.
During the meetup, we added about ten missing places on the Google Maps.
Finally, we had refreshments at the Ice Cream world, one of the most popular ice cream shops in Kalutara.
It was a great meetup, and we hope we were able to help lots of people with mobility needs.
Please watch the RECAP video.
