Recap: [Hybrid] India, November 15, Tripurari Purnima Celebration at Durgadi Fort, Kalyan

Recap Tripuri Purnima Celebration at Durgadi Fort – November 15, 2024

On Tripuri Purnima, we visited Durgadi Fort to see the beautiful Deepa Utsav. I was joined by @Sagarkanherkar , @SaylliWalve1 , and her brother Rushikesh. My wife @neelamdeshmukh who are Local Guides also attended. Sayali and her brother traveled all the way from Dombivli by Moterbike to join us. Thank you to both of them for making the effort to come!

We started the evening by climbing the fort. The entrance has a large gate, and both sides of the road were decorated with traditional clay lamps. These lamps were lit with oil and cotton wicks. Every corner of the fort was glowing with these lamps, making the place look magical.

The main fort lights were turned off, so the beauty of the lamps could shine. Words cannot describe how amazing the fort looked. Even cameras cannot capture such a view. It’s something you must see with your own eyes. This tradition, celebrated during Tripuri Purnima, follows old customs, making it even more special.

Durgadi Fort is important in history because it is where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj built the first naval base for Swarajya. The fort is near the creek, and even today, shipbuilding happens in that area. This gives us pride, knowing Shivaji Maharaj once walked here in our Kalyan city.

People arranged the lamps in different designs like Om, Swastika, garlands, and even the map of Maharashtra. It was an amazing sight to see. Everyone brought their own lamps from home and lit them to participate in the celebrations. We also lit lamps with our own hands, which made us feel connected to this beautiful tradition.

Although 3 people attended in person, 10 joined online to see the celebration live.
Attendees : @TusharSuradkar, @TravellerG @Shreeish @MayuriKubal @Shrut19 @RosyKohli @AjitThite @NileshNag @ShailendraOjha The crowd was big, so it was hard to show everything during the online session. Unfortunately, we could not visit the temple or take many photos because the line to see the goddess was over three hours long line.

Still, it was a memorable experience, and I hope more people will join this event next year. If you ever get the chance, you must visit Durgadi Fort during Tripuri Purnima to see the Deepa Utsav for yourself. It is a celebration of our culture, history, and traditions that we should preserve and cherish.

Thank you for reading, and I invite you to join this event in the future!

Attended this meetup in person at Durgadi Fort. I arrived a bit late with my brother after work.

I met the host @Sagarkanherkar along with his adorable son, Vihaan. We waited for others to join, but unfortunately, we were the only attendees.
From the spot where we had parked our bikes, we could see the lit-up kalash (#1), and all our tiredness of the day seemed to vanish.

I also met Sagar’s wife, and started walking from the entrance. People were lighting lamps from the base of the fort all the way up to the temple at the top. It was much more crowded than I had anticipated. Many elderly people were walking up to the temple, and numerous families(#4) had come to participate in the lamp-lighting ceremony. The festival brought a lot of energy and a sense of togetherness.

Seeing the fort illuminated was incredibly peaceful and refreshing. The fort was fully lit up, and the full moon added a magical touch.

We walked upstairs, enjoyed the mesmerizing view, and lit some diyas. We then explored the fort briefly. Durgadi Fort is a small fort that once served as a naval base.

It was Guru Nanak Ji’s 357th birthday, and I was delighted to see his photo displayed alongside those of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Lord Shri Ram (#5). This reflected the fort’s respect for diversity and different cultures.

By 8:30 PM, we began the virtual meetup. While Sagar greeted everyone and explained the details of the meetup and the Tripuri Pornima Utsav, I gave a virtual tour of the site. Everyone was thrilled to see the beautifully lit fort. Due to the overwhelming crowd, we had to keep the call short. Thank you for joining virtually @RosyKohli @Shreeish @TravellerG @AjitThite @ShailendraOjha @Shrut19 @MayuriKubal @NileshNag @TusharSuradkar @MohanG

We clicked a few photos, had a short discussion, and then headed back home.
It was a pleasure meeting Sagar’s family. Thank you for this wonderful meetup, it was truly a treat for the eyes to see Durgadi Fort in all its illuminated glory.
