Recap: [Hybrid] India, July 11, Where Should We Go in Pune? ASK Maps Decides!

I am delighted to be the first on to accept the meetup challenge by @framesbysumedh around the wonderful new feature Ask Maps.

We gathered at the iconic Rani LaxmiBai Statue on JM Road in Pune and explored the Ask Maps feature by asking “Suggest a random place nearby within 500 meters walkable distance”. Maps came up with Phule Museum which we had already explored last year.

So, we refined the search by asking “I want something peaceful and relaxing” to which Maps suggested Sambhaji Garden.

I had last visited here 25 years back. So, we were excited to be back here.

We started with our first round of tea and Chai pe Charcha with @AjitThite, sumedh and @Nitesh_Kumawat

As we explored the park, local guides from all over India joined us online.
@SharmaKK @MerlinThomas @TravellerBeast @Kumaarsantosh @Gurukrishnapriya @SonamW @Anil6969 @fayayolla @Shyamtak001 Thank you for your encouragement :handshake: :hugs:

We took plenty of photos and videos at the park including the entrance, food park, jogging track, aquarium, miniature city, miniature waterfalls, kids play area, open gym, fountains, statues, pagoda, temple, parking and the lawns.

We also celebrated Connect’s 10th anniversary in response to @KashifMisidia bhai’s call for meetups by printing the amazing designs cards that he shared in his post.

We also took opportunity to promote the challenge by @curatorofmemory to describe your Connect Story in One Word.

We also shared the amazing design printed cards by @Annaelisa for thanking Google and its creators of the Maps and Connect platforms

Triangle version is also available for those who want it.

Nitesh Kumawat attended his first meetup as a local guide :handshake: :bouquet:
Looking forward to his continued participation in Pune’s LG community activities.

@TusharSuradkar thank you so much for the mention. Is the bus in the park converted into a restaurant?

We enjoyed displaying your amazing challenge design during the meetup @curatorofmemory

That pink bus is a discarded city bus and is now used as a women’s toilet.
There are many such installations all over Pune, and here’s a close-up view in case you missed it in the collage earlier:

And it is not just a toilet; they also provide sanitary products for free to women, as well as help with women’s hygiene. :female_sign:

Here’s my post from 2021 when I noticed these in Pune for the first time.

IMP: Vikas, look at the kind of response back then. Community engagement was at its peak - unbelievable now :star_struck:
