Recap: How Google Maps work for everyone?

Hello dear all

Today we are going to see how the invention of Google Maps has changed the world of travelling.

Before 25 years travelling to different cities, states & countries was a very difficult task as nothing was available online and everything we had to refer through Atlas guides, state-wise, region-wise maps and sometimes that was also very difficult to get and also it was not accurate. Hence travelling become a very difficult task, but with the invention of Google Maps, everything has changed. Travelling has become so easy, and now lots of travellers travel around the world and with the help of technology able to put their views.

During the session, the mentally retarded patients asked questions like

how many km from our place to Ahmedabad?

Plus what other things does it show on Google maps?

Are these give proper results……… and many more questions?

After listening to their questions I started explaining how Google maps works, with examples.

I took the location of the science city of Ahmedabad and type the name on the Google map and the search results it gave, but as @NareshDarji recently visited this place so I started to explain

1-How we can travel: there are options of train, car, cycle, plane and walking

  • Car:- it took 6 hours and 13 min. 351 KM
  • Train:- it took 6 hours
  • Walking 65 to 70 hours
  • We do not have an airport so we cannot search for it.

they were amazed to see hotels, gas stations, rest stops, Banks etc options and the images, and videos that were put by different travellers.

Also, distances showed in a flash on the screen with different options like by walk, by two-wheeler, by 4 wheeler and also shortest routes also shown. If we need to take any break for food or restroom or petrol then also we can give a search for a nearby location that also we tried by giving search for a hotel near science city.

We have seen videos, photos, and 360 photos and read reviews about it and get the information of charges for visitors, I have explained in detail about the use of Google maps. During our session, we found a few personal photos so we reported personal photos to the moderators.

This was a very nice experience and interactive session. I am glad to share basic information about google maps with the community.

Thank you @NareshDarji for sharing amazing photos with us. your review was very useful for visitors.

Big thank you to all Local Guide for joining me in this session @RosyKohli @RajeshKumar @Saddam @BijohnAdams . @Bhairav

Your support makes me proud and all patients are very happy to see you all.

Hi @Tejal : thanks for this info. But could you please inform us when the accessibility features within google maps (info for wheel chair users +pedestrian modus for the blind, … etc.) will be available all over the world? Now they are available in some parts, like in the USA or Japan etc. but not in Europe. Thanks in advance. Sincerely, Kattyt

Hello dear @Tejal

Appreciate your constant efforts to conduct such meetings every Thursday - the time & energy needed is very high - I understand since we have done it in the past.

The way you have explained the “Working of Google Maps” looks interesting - simple and clear.

Best wishes for more achievements in the future.

Regards with prayers.

Agree with you this special feature is not available everywhere but whenever I write a review I used to add #accessibleplace and #oneaccessiblity

and I get questions about wheelchair entrance, ramp and etc. this is what I am doing and hosting a google local guide event for awareness for the same.

@NareshDarji

Thank you so much for your wholehearted support without that I am unable to go so far. God always bless you.

@indahnuria Cheers dear yes it was a great time and everyone enjoyed it very much it was fun to share this knowledge with all of them.

Hi @Tejal , Thanks for this tip, but accessibility can also be reached in more subtile ways: last year e.g. I got a desert in a plate that was not a bowl but also not totally flat, so that the ice ??ball would not jump away when I tried to eat it. Or the menu is readable on the website of the restaurant, … or the people working in this place are friendly enough to read something for you or cut the pizza in pieces so that you can eat it easily, … Blind people need other help than wheel chair users, so a tag can be interesting for adding things, but I think it’s difficult to indicate for which people specified accomodations are accessible. I can’t judge a place on accessibility for wheel chair users, I’m not an expert in this.
