[Recap] Historical Melaka (Malaysia) Guided Virtual Tour

Melaka (Malacca) is the place where a lot of the history of Malaysia began. From the establishment of the Melaka kingdom in early 1400s, to the Portuguese occupation in 1511, the Dutch in 1641, to the British in 1824 and the independence of Malaysia in 1957, we sat through a shirt discourse of the history of the Malayan lands. This is our 3rd virtual tour of locations in Malaysia. Check out our previous virtual tours of Kuala Lumpur and Penang Island.

We had over 30 people joining in this 90 minute virtual tour of Melaka. This session was not recorded since I have discontinued my GSuite license, and I would be glad to repeat for others who are keen who have missed it.

Our virtual tour started with a short sharing of the history of the Kingdom of Melaka, how why it became an important trade location, and also why it became a part of the important history of the world. Melaka being located right in the middle of the trade route between Europe, Middle East, India, China and the rest of the Eastern world, made it a location to be envied and sought after by the European powers at that time.

We then started our virtual tour as we went through historical timelines of the occupation of the Portuguese, Dutch and British by visiting about 20 historical sites and attractions throughout the historical city.

The places we visited through Google Maps and Street View included the below.

After joining this virtual tour, I realize that there’s still lots of interesting places and foods that I need to try when I come back to Melaka again. In your opinion, how many days are the ideal time to explore Melaka?

I would love to try that traditional kuih. All of them looks so great :yum:
